From what I've seen, it seems to be somewhat evenly split between some black people thinking it's reclaiming and some finding it offensive to the people before them. It's just confusing and hard to understand and since I want to understand the issue better

When a word has a history like the n-word there's bound to be different opinions on usage. Most of the older black folks take massive offense to it or some actually use the -er version. You can't really expect millions of people to collectively agree on a single word.

I was front row for Azealia's concert in Chicago and someone a couple rows behind me said if I say the n word in the crowd Azealia would beat me.

I don't why the white people in here and protecting themselves as if the word effects them. Again, I feel like if the word is used in an art form (ex. song, book, dialogue script) you can say it, but not "just because" or as a hate crime.

if the older generation who was around when the n-word was used so rampant when they literally feared stepping outside their door, when the KKK was still so strong hanging black bodies like it was a sport, was not allowed to sit in certain places, is against the usage of the word...then that says a lot to me

i completely understand why it was used so heavily at first (in rap) because they were making a statement...but i feel as though...now...there are far better words that could be used

If white people wanted to use a word and then said "oh by the way, you black people can't use it" it would be discrimination. What makes you think you have the privilege to exclude everyone but black people from the usage of a word?

And honestly, it's not like the word flows out of my mouth easily, I do sometimes stutter and try and avoid the word, but then it distracts me from the song and my enjoyment in the music. It's just music and I'm repeating Azealia and her lyrics.

And some people use "better words". But personally I observed that black people, especially the younger generation resonate with the word a lot when it's used so why not use it. If some people would dislike it then oh well. I mean you don't see the older generation going up in arms against Beyoncé, Drake, Jay-Z or Kendrick Lamar for using the n-word even though there would be some eye-rolling going on from ALL generation. Besides not the entire older generation disagree with the word, some actually use it themselves (I can hear my grandpa ranting about the "-er problems" and "white people").
