On a more serious note this is probably one of the only times in music history where 3 black females were on top.
Edit: now that I think about 3 black artists in general.
Janet, Mariah, and Whitney

All these thread topics. The Internet hit its stride a decade too late. It would've been so fun to stan for Mariah then.

Probably Mariah, she was queen bitch of the 90s. Madonna stans would be the Lambs enemy and they'd be getting into stan wars all the time, with the Lambs mocking Erotica's flop mercilessly. Whitney would be like Adele is on here now, massively successful yet not that many actual stans.

Janet, Whitney, Toni*
Also in 1986, Whitney, Janet, and Patti Labelle all had a #1 album within a one month span.

Yea I was moreso just thinking of entire eras though and 1986 was when Madonna released True Blue. I can't think of any specific era or at least 1 year where 3 black artists were on top.
This is actually making me kinda sad.

It's happened quite a few times:
MJ, Janet, Whitney - 1986/1987
Toni, Whitney, Janet - 1993/1994
Donna, MJ, Diana - 1979/1980
I'm sure there are more.

That's when Eminem released Encore though. Also Bey released Dangerously In Love in 2003, so more of her success would probably go towards that year.

1986/1987 was moreso Mj, Whitney, and Madonna than Janet. I believe True Blue sold more than Control and had more hits.
I would probably agree with you on Donna, MJ, and Diana for 1979/1980 although I think Blondie was really big around that time too.
But other than 1993/1994 and 1979/1980 nothing else really comes to mind.

I'm talking about in general. 3 black artists couldn't dominate 1986/1987 because Madonna was there and well she ain't black.

Yes, True Blue sold more than Control, but Janet was really big around 86/87 with her hits "When I think of you" etc. She exploded more in 1989/1990 with "Rhythm Nation."
None of my school mates were stans of Whitney. Sure, the Bodyguard soundtrack was enjoyed, but she wasn't pop-y or fun like Mariah. The teens back then loved Mariah (actually 'Another Night') created a lot of Real Mccoy stans!
