I think the only reason why Aaliyah didn't dominate the 90's was because her music wasn't catering to a broad audience. Her music kind of just stayed in the R&B realm, with the exception of "The One I Gave My Heart To" which was a great ballad and charted at #9 on the Hot 100. She just didn't crave attention and stayed true to her vision. She did exceptionally well considering her style and terrible team.

The only reason Brandy happened was because of her team and riding off Moesha. If Aaliyah had her own sitcom she would have towered over Brandy, ijs.

Even though Aaliyah came out before Brandy I don't think she hit it girl status before Brandy debuted. If anything she wasn't an it girl until her sophomore album when she had cosmetic deals, & hillfiger deals.

Brandy happened because of her talent and strong debut album. Her previous acting role in Thea garnered her a spot on television.

If Aaliyah had a television show I'm sure it would have put her in that position as well, but it didn't happen.

As a die hard Aaliyah fan, I've accepted that Aaliyah just was not the biggest thing to ever hit the universe and that's okay. She's known and respected for what she achieved and there's no need to say "what if".

Aaliyah had Back & Forth with the help of R. Kelly, Who just came off the massive success of Bump n Grind which was actually the song that was #1 before Back n Forth went #1 on the R&B/Hip Hop chart.

Face it, ever since those sweet and smooth synths came on I Wanna Be Down, Aaliyah stopped becoming as prominent.

Brandy had a bigger song in 1996-1997 than Aaliyah and she didn't even have an album out

Aaliyah was a much better singer than Janet. And Beyonce sounded awful as a kid, have you seen that Girls Tyme performance? Aaliyah's voice has always been better than Beyonce's but I'm not surprised a Beyonce stan would deny the obvious
