Aaliyah's debut record had 2 top 10 hits. Her style was fresh and her age made her even more intriguing. She was the first IT girl, yes but it did not last long after Brandy premiered. Brandy was in the company of legends such as Whitney and Quincy Jones and got her own television show as well as many major endorsements such as Covergirl.

None of this is to discredit Aaliyah though, I am a huge Aaliyah fan but I must be honest. Aaliyah was IT but Brandy came along and redefined what IT was.





I like to equate Brandy to the Miley Cyrus of the 90's

Aaliyah's Tommy endorsement was big but it wasn't on television every 5 minutes like Brandy's CoverGirl endorsement
