1. I appreciate the honesty. The surprise release got the GP curious and excited about an album in way that I hadn't seen in years, maybe since Kanye & 50 did the whole competition release back in 08.

4. I agree, I think the only album this would've worked with was maybe 'B'Day' I couldn't see her doing it with any of her others.

It was worth it. She just dropped the ball on the singles because she didn't give a ****. 21 would not have continued to sell without the string of hits RITD--SFTTR--SLY. Same principle. She just didn't care. It's unfortunate as a stan, but it is what it is.

That's a good point. But she could've kept all the singles after Drunk In Love.

As the consumer, no. For Bey, yes. She wanted a non-conventional release method and succeeded (commercially and critically), so I'm sure she's proud.

But if the strategy comes with lack of attention after the release, I hope the concept doesn't catch on.

great way to look at it. I also hope it doesn't catch on. I don't think it will anyway, it takes a certain level of confidence to do a release like this and I doubt 98% of labels/artists have that confidence.

There is. There are several. Mediatraffic isn't able to track all countries, but doesn't make them 100% unreliable. Things exist because people come and create them for those who'd like a reference.

Despite it's lack of longevity, it's still outsold the majority of her peers (so far), the release was a groundbreaking moment in pop culture and will be remembered for years to come, and as far as the GP are concerned the album was a huge success (which it was) as they was frequently reminded of it's record breaking.

The surprise release as such is completely independent from the lack of promotion which followed it. I don't see how people don't understand. She could've had the surprise release AND also kept promoting afterwards but it's obvious she just rather stayed at home with her family. Without the surprise release she would've sold like 300-400k first week so obviously it was worth it.

Nope. The album just seems to have faded really with nothing to even remember it by , its really weird how forgettable it was after those 3-4 months

It's impossible to track sales from every country in world esp the ones that don't have music charts. The only thing that comes close to counting global sales is IFPI. No one recognizes Mediatraffic. No labels, no creditable sources, nothing.

The surprise release saved her legacy. If she'd released this album normally it would have underperformed ala '4', this was a genius way to circumvent that and maintain her indestructable image.

I feel like all the single releases are her label's doing. Beyonce really could care less.

The album made a huge impact and made history. It was a movement. So yeah it was worth it. The only thing it lacked was promotion.

I think he meant that there is no such thing as an official world chart. And yes, he's right.

And the album is far from forgotten... Every "surprise" release is now cited as a "Beyoncé" move and it will always be that way. Cannot deny the impact that the album had on the industry.
