I'm far from being a Beyonce fan, but I respect the way the album was handled. So much emphasis is put on the standard method of releasing singles and relying on airplay, promotion, and/or blind luck. A lot of the official singles didn't chart so heavily on iTunes because most people interested already bought the album and had all the tracks.
I feel like Beyonce achieved what she set out to do, so I respect her for it. Her fans got a video for each song on the album--other artist's stans only dream of getting material that rich with their fav's releases.
Yes
It was worth it on the night of its release because her vision came to life, that's all she wanted
She clearly gives no ****s about promo because she'd rather do what she wants (tour etc) which I love because I think more artists should be that way
I don't think the point was to have an era at all
A surprise release by a major relevant artist has literally never been done before and that alone made it worth it
Beyonce wasn't aiming for a long era, though. All she wanted to do was release something that people would look at as an ALBUM rather than a string of hit singles. She accomplished HER goal with the Beyoncé.
The strategy helped album sales initially, but ultimately hurt the singles run. And singles are what carry an album's sales past release. It's still too early to tell.
It broke multiple records and started a trend. Yes, it was worth it. I just think she's letting such a good album go to waste by letting it just fade. I understand she isn't worried about singles anymore, though.
