The problem is not only can you not turn the thing off but they patented some pretty scary sounding technology to do with monitoring you and giving your info to companies. Of course that's more or less the same thing FB does and it doesn't mean that anything bad would actually happen to customers because of it but it makes MS look bad regardless.
Why did they not sell the kinnect separately anyway? Many MS customers didn't want it and having it forced on them is going to cause people to assume this kind of stuff, especially after all that DRM bs.
