I feel like Janet should be viewed as more iconic but her impact is not necessarily recognized as much as it should be, while Celine gets treated like a legend.
If she was "inspired" by MC and CD , she clearly forgot her inspiration as she has nothing that remotely resembles any of those two .
Anyway, that's off-topic .
As far as am concerned celine has made more impact in peoples life than Janet with her music.Celiene has healed many broken relationships and helped restore the faith of people in the existence of true love.Through her music she preaches that love is the gratest gift of all and encouraged people to not be afraid of expressing how they feel.Celiene's music is a music of all seasons, whether you are going through heartbreak or in love, her music is very uplifting.Celine's theme of love in her music is universal and trancends racial, cultural ,and social barriers. That's why for example when you go to a continent like Africa where black American artist reing supreme, you'll find out that celiene is one of the few white musicians that people love and adore, she's even more popular than Janet here.
Her success stems from the fact that she has had a profound impact on peoples lives.
As far as I am concerned the true measure of a musicians impact is how many lives they've touched and impacted through music and I believe celien has done all these and so deserves her place in the league of legends.

I disagree, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I have receipts for Janet making a positive impact in many of her fans' lives that I can (and will) pull out if necessary. Do you have receipts for this? If you don't, I'm going to have to deny your claim.

This is all subjective. Her music makes me drowsy.

Well duh!! Love is the most universal theme period. But it's not an inherently interesting subject. It all depends the lyrics a person is singing and how they sing them. There are many, MANY artists out there, including Janet Jackson, who have sung about love in more interesting and creative ways than Celine. She's not special.

So because she sings about love, she's more popular than Janet?

The ultimate measure of an artist is how what they brought to the table artistically has changed the art form. Put another way, without Janet, the Beyoncé, Britney, Ciara, Rihanna, ect. that people know today wouldn't be the same because they wouldn't have Janet's archetype to lift from.
If Celine wasn't here, we'd be without a few big ballads and…… She's done nothing for pop(ular) music.

We can agree to disagree. But the fact is that celiene's music trancends racial, cultural and social barriers. She's more popular and adored worldwide, thus it's safe to to conclude that she's touched the lives of ordinary people more than Janet.the odinary guy on the streets only care about how music makes them feel not all these so called impact of Janet you have listed.
Janet is more iconic and has a much greater influence on music as a whole, but Celine is lucky and is more respected as a legend of sorts by the general public.
She's sold WAAAAY more records than Janet. I'm pretty sure Celine is only behind Madonna in that regard. Not to mention that My Heart Will Go On is FAR bigger than all of Janet's songs. I mean I couldn't name ONE Janet song but EVERYONE here in Barbados knows MHWGO. Celine can also still tour. Janet's last tour flopped.

I'm confused as to why you think Janet's doesn't.

No, it's not.

But I think you're right in that we have different meanings of what makes an artist's music impactful (if that's a word). It would be pointless to attempt to debate with you on that. However, I've attached a short clip to demonstrate how Janet's music has changed the lives of "ordinary guys on the street".
janet jackson revolutionized the way women approach their sexuality. her performance skills have been emulated countless of times. artists like britney spears, christina aguilera, rihanna, beyoncé, justin timberlake and more have idolized her, taken inspiration from her and some have even paid homage. rhythm nation. the rolling stone cover. superbowl half time (reason why youtube was created).
what does céline have? my heart will go on? lol if it's about record sales then you could say céline is more iconic than legends like aretha...
Artists who cited Celine as one of their influences:
Rihanna, Rita Ora, Christina Aguilera, Frank Ocean, Adele, Josh Groban, Delta Goodrem, Jordin Sparks, Charice, Leona Lewis, Jessie J, Jojo, Lea Michele, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Regine Velasquez, Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens, The Canadian Tenors, Faith Hill, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Helena Paparizou and Lara Fabian.
i call ********. half of those probably just praised her. when has rihanna ever done something that's reminded you of céline? rita ora seriously? christina took notes from whitney and mariah, no one's checking for céline's technique. leona and ariana are basically mariah carey tribute acts. and katy perry is all about madonna.
