You're turn. 9 million copies worldwide. More iconic than ANY thing Rihanna has done.

And Single Ladies was not a WW single. It was only officially released in a handful of countries.

Those celebrities stan OUT for her. + plus her brand is bigger than any artist in this gen. And I won't get into her performances.

What you've outlined thought is rather hard to prove. Considering that Beyonce just released a landmark album, currently selling more in a few weeks than most sell in a year, I think we can assume that people aren't thinking Pepsi when you say the name Beyoncé. What's the difference between hit songs and hit albums anyway? Albums contain 10+ songs. If an album is a hit, there is more music being consumed by that artist than a hit song and so if you don't agree that it is a better indication of popularity, you should at least be able to admit that it is of equal importance. Beyonce's last hit you ask? December 13th, 2013. And every week since.
Now onto the memorable songs part, I'm not going to comment on your opinion that Rihanna has a ton of memorable songs, but I will say that Single Ladies is extremely memorable. And that Crazy in Love peaked in the top ten of 14 non-English speaking countries, 11 of which were top 5 peaks. So please do some simple research before you start to post inaccuracies.
|
Single Ladies went #1 in 2 countries (USA & Brasil) Crazy in Love went #1 in 3 countries (Ireland, UK, USA)
Hit albums don't leave much of a mark on pop culture anymore. Unless Beyonce manages to sell as much as 21, it won't be remembered.
And even 21 had hits, Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You, they helped sell the album and keep her in everyone's mind throughout 2011.
I think it's quite obvious Drunk In Love and XO won't be as big as Someone Like You and Rolling In The Deep

Maybe. Maybe not. But when local and national news reports that Beyonce tickets sell out in seconds it sends a message. It adds to her reputation as a must see performer and ensures that people will want still want to see her even when she's "irrelevant" by mainstream standards.
When they report that Rihanna was 2 hours late and drooling on herself, that sends a message.
Think about what Beyonce's accomplished with her lowest selling album and think about what Rihanna accomplished with her lowest selling album and tell me who's the bigger icon.
One of these careers leads to still being able to sell out large venues in 15 years. The other one leads to a seat on the American Idol judges' panel.

Exactly. Bey is honestly a legend now and isn't even in the same discussion as Rih, Gaga, Katy, and co. And she debuted before Britney, so an argument for her isn't even valid.
You hoes just love to pit them against each other for NO reason.

I think people have to understand that being successful is not iconic. There are songs that reached #1 and have earned awards that no one really remembers today.

This is the logic you are presenting to me:
If a song is in the top five or is #2, then it is not a hit. A hit can only be a #1 song.
If your album does not sell 30 million copies, it will not be remembered.
Do those really make sense? And anyway, yes, hit songs keep an album in people's minds. This era is like 4 weeks old though. You have no idea what Beyonce has in store, just like you had no idea an album was coming on December 12th.

Agreed.
Beyonce has left iconic status and moved onto legendary status by definition.

Lady Gaga going to the Grammys in an egg isn't remembered by the GP? Perhaps in Zimbabwe, but I'm fairly sure the majority of people who follow music in a general sense still know about this.
EDIT: In terms of being an icon, realistically from the current pop girls:
Beyonce > Gaga > Britney >>>>> Rihanna.

Gaga was, but now Rihanna took over, is very arguable between this 2, Gaga has Bad Romance and Rihanna has Umbrella and WFL so I think Rihanna is winning as now

Honey, she is an icon. period....
let's look at the facts...
SHE DOES NOT WRITE HER MUSIC(writinng credits for writing a word is not her writing her music #navy fans)
SHE IS THE DEFINITION OF A LABEL PUPPET, WHO IS COMPLETELY MANIPULATED AND CONTROLLED BY INDUSTRY TRENDS AND HER LABELS PROFESSIONAL DECISIONS REGARDING HER MUSIC AND CAREER
SHE CAN BARELY SING HER OWN SONGS(or should i say songs written for her to be hits..)
her entire library of music consists of music MADE by CAMPS OF WRITERS AND PRO PRODUCERS to make sure they are chart toppers, despite the music having any integrity
She has LEACHED OFF ANY SUCCESSFUL ERA FROM ANY ARTIST, MIMICKING THEIR CHARACTERISTICS to remain relevant....
DEF JAM called her the apple ipod of pop music, in which they make sure they re invent.. just like they would re release a new machine for the audience to buy every year
= all equate to an icon bitch
