I feel like this is taking so long because JoJo & team are asking for more than to be let out of her contract. Just the fact that they havent been getting her work or doing anything alone with her is enough to break a contract in California. I think that maybe JoJo and her people, along with releasing her, are also trying to take her masters as well. They want to own her old albums and all the songs she's recorded in this time. Doing that will hold a lot of stuff up, labels dont just give up masters. Blackground might see it as, we'll let her go, but we'll keep the masters so if she does blow up somewhere else then we can re-release her old albums + new stuff and make money. The more I think about it the more it makes sense.
This is really sad! JoJo is beyond talented to be going through this! But, I have a question: What is so hard for Blackground to just release her from her contract? I know it's not that easy but still.....Why is it SO hard?

I doubt that. After 7 years of waiting and being in limbo I'm sure she just wants to get out. Plus I think she owns all of the masters. When Blackground had a distribution deal she said that she owns all of them.
Maybe they are looking for more than just being released but I don't think it's the masters.

Blackground doesn't want to release her. Barry, for some odd reason, believes that the label will get back on it's feet and they'll be a running, working label again. JoJo is the biggest artist they have and with the most potential to be huge, so they don't want to lose her.

She was actually 12 and her mom signed for her. Because she was so young and her mother had to sign, that should make it easier for her to leave them. At least I would think so.
If that 5-year rule is the only thing that can help her, we're looking at waiting another 3 years cause Disaster was released in 2011
Also, @barryhankerson isn't the real Barry. Blackground used to communicate through their Facebok page and twitter @blackgroundmg before, but they haven't either since August last year

They released sexy to me last February so it's 4 years I'm afraid
I feel so sorry for JoJo She's been stuck for so long now I can't even begin to imagine how tired she is of all this mess. They just need to release her so she can sign to another label cause we all know she is gonna get snatched up the same week she is finally free from her label. I also imagine she will throw a Project X style party once she's free.
She is far too talented to be stuck in this situation... it's just really upsetting. I think she needs to go over to Def Jam tbh cause I feel like they would be the best label for her. Her leaked tracks are 1000x better than a lot of the main pop girls actual album tracks as well.
Dispite not releasing an album for 7 years she still has a really strong fan base... I hope for her sake more than anything that this is the year we FINALLY see her dropped... it can't come quick enough tbh
It's actually kind of surprising she has the fanbase that she does still. I mean after not releasing an album for 7 years.
The leaks, mixtapes and covers have definitely helped her. If it weren't for those songs leaking she might not even have the following she has now. A lot of people re-discovered her through the leaks. I did.
