Brian Friedman's recent choreography is horrible. All of his dances look like the body is trying to attack itself, it's all so hard and masculine and it has no story behind it. It has no levels or progression. It feels like no thought went into it. It's not theatrical, sexy or beautiful to look at. It doesn't even look fun.
Then when Brian DID adapt, Britney didn't put in enough effort.
Any dancer worth their salt should be able to pull at LEAST the final chorus of HIAM. Britney fans were desperate to put the blame on anything but Britney's lack of effort.
Also, we seriously need to start making GIFs from these choreography videos.
And then build her up again and say what a "legend" she was once she was dead. Its like Amy Winehouse - the media were slating her and attacking her constantly before she died. Same with MJ.
I know, then people wonder why Britney is so guarded in interviews now. I don't blame her after all the **** the media has said about her during her dark days. Michael had it just as bad, even in death, some media outlets still like to be disrespectful and refer to him as "Jacko Wacko"
It's more of a heartbreaking performance than a disappointing one. While she appeared very helpless, confused and unfocused on that stage, there was a perceptible anxiety/nervousness in her face and body language that suggested she realized just how much was riding on this performance. As out of it as she was, there's a degree of self-awareness that made this particularly depressing. It'd be another thing entirely if she had stumbled through a performance, taken a bow and exited the stage none the wiser ala Winehouse, but it's clear towards the end that Britney recognized her failure. I don't think there's anything more devastating than the look of shame/embarrassment that crept across her face at the end. This performance was a major confidence blow for Britney; one that I think she's still recovering from 4 years later.
It was irresponsible for anyone to think that Britney, in her broken state, was capable of handling the pressure of a major, so-called "comeback" performance. I fault Sam Lufti for pushing Britney to perform at the peak of her supposed "insanity" and turning this into a very make-or-break moment. I fault MTV for their lack of conviction, (by most accounts, they were initially reluctant to allow Britney to perform), providing her a platform on which she would more-than-likely make a fool of herself, and using the buzz surrounding the upcoming performance as the primary source of promotion for the entire event.
Putting aside the whole, last min' change in performance, broken heels story and what not I always liked the performance!
Doesn't matter if it's the song that's so hot or it's the performance which was kinda fun to watch.
Yes, it wasn't her best one but lets face it, most artists don't do anything close to her even when it's one of her not that best preformances.
There's only one artists people want to see when the VMA's are coming and it was like that before and after that preformance.
I think she badly wants to dance like her "old" self but the main factors is the ****ed up knee plus her medication which makes her legarthic, medication has a lot of side effects, esp. when it's in a heavy dosage.
