Adele has a beautiful tone, but on technical grounds, she's not up to Bey's level.

What exactly does "vocalist of our generation" mean, anyways?
If the question is whether Bey is the best technical vocalist out there amongst those singers who have widespread fame (as opposed to the thousands of opera and musical theater vocalists who aren't well known), then probably yes, given just how extensive here training was. If the question is whether when a majority of the general public thinks about a "big voice" (which is what most people think of when you say vocalist, NOT about technical training which 99% of the public knows nothing about and cant distinguish) they think Bey, then no. Her fame doesn't come from her singing alone, but from her whole package and presentation and performance. She is a superstar but if you were to ask "the public" then Adele would likely come up as more of an answer for the greatest singer out there, and again,m for the public singer and vocalist mean the same, even if that is technically incorrect.

This discussion is so absurd. I have never heard anyone credible in the music arena refer to Beyonce as the vocalist of a generation. But of course it's a matter of opinion, so if you Bey stans find her voice to be the best you've heard in several decades, good for you. I personally know several people with more impressive voices than her.

Beyonce may not have the best natural voice of her generation but she is the most technically sufficient vocalist of her generation which is why her voice has only gotten better while others has declined. Xtina has a better tone naturally but Beyonce's technique makes her a better vocalist in my eyes.

Thisss!!! Beyonce never naturally had a big voice thats why shes so inspiring because she had to work hard to get her where it is today while christina had a naturally big voice but never got the correct training and now Beyonce can be called the voice of this generation

While the gays on ATRL analyze and bring up little itty bitty things to get their biased opinion across, it's more what the GP first thinks of when the name of an artist is mentioned.
Go to any random person and mention Beyonce, and most of them will say she's a hot and flawless performer. Yeah, Bey can sing but I don't think the GP really associates that talent with her most of the time.
However, mention Kelly, Adele or maybe Xtina (in the old days) and people will first think of them as vocalists. Yeah maybe it's the only talent they have since they're not full package artists (no pun intended), but at least that's what the GP would automatically associate them with.
Just my two cents

Let's not mention Pink in here since the general public rarely mention her.
Beyonce, Kelly & Adele get undeniable praise for their vocals. Two deserve it more than the other. But none of them have really been given the title the way that Whitney, Mariah or the less-deserving Christina has been.
Fortunately, people are finally beginning to see how unworthy Christina is of the title and Beyonce or Kelly will snatch it.

Kelly Rowland's voice is not big. Adele's tone is beautiful but her range isn't there and it isn't robust.
Christina is definitely vocally there, but I think she should work on her control and technique.
Beyonce doesn't have what Christina has naturally, sure. But that's what makes her an inspiration. She practiced and practiced and practiced to get where she is now. I think that's why she's great.

This is actually the most intelligent post in this thread, and I somewhat agree.
I am biased, so of course I will say Beyonce. But, I can see the GP saying Adele or Christina Aguilera because they are strictly vocalists like a Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, or Aretha.

And the Gp doesnt know or care for kelly and The GP thinks Christina cant remember the NA and is off key.. and adele she hasnt the spotlight long enough to be the voice of this generation and on live performances she sings lower than studio

Nope, she has a good voice but I wouldn't call her the vocalist of our generation
& she needs to start using her head voice more often, I use it !!!

Let us praise Kelly Clarkson. The one who displayed her incredible vocal skill on the Grammy's and had others in her own industry calling her the greatest singer on the planet. The one who some said even out-sang Aretha twice in one month.
Bey is great, don't get me wrong. But she doesn't hold a candle to Kelly and I wouldn't even put her in the top 3.

This.
Kelly, Adele and Christina are considered the vocalists of this generation. Sorry Beyhive.

Lots of cute and pressed responses but I still don't think there's that one vocalist leading the pack. It's just Bey, Kelly CLARKSON, and maybe Aguilera. We'll just see who'll be able to maintain their vocals in the next ten years.

Though, I think if Beyonce has a ballad that is gigantic (Something more than Halo, Listen, and I Was Here), than she will truly be.

I'd like to throw Florence Welch in to consideration.
She has quite a spectacular, unique voice.
