More like the oposite tbh.
Those manufactured Jpop and Kpop boybands/girlbands with 6+ members are extremely popular there, while their music is just cringeworthy.
Jrock, well, 10 years ago in the visual kei boom it was quite interesting, especially nagoya kei, but when the oshare kei took over and successfully killed it, its mostly boring and formulaic with a few exceptions.
And the western acts popular there like Mariah, Avril or Gagas last album slaying there... Sorry, but thats self-explanatory.

edit: I'm not saying that black artists aren't successful in Japan/Asia. I'm just saying they don't seem to have as much success as white artists, and it's something I'm sure a lot of us have noticed. I'm not going in to why it might be. But, it is what it is

Mmm my fave is not white and he's popular in Japan. Well, he is not black either, but my point still stand.
Most black artists make RnB/urban music, genre that not too popular in Asia for now. So maybe we don't use many black artists because we're not interested with music they make?
There were time that we used RnB too, in the 90's and mid 00's, and black artists could score big hit.

Lemme give it to y'all straight Japanese pop fans enjoy big vocals, sweet love lyrics and a cute youthful look. That is whats selling Adriana there. With Taylor and Avril it's the whole super blonde super white girl image that they crave in Japan (even niall horan of 1D said Japanese fans prefer him because he is blonde and harbour eyes) plus Avril does this punk pop thing Japan loves (Tommy February) with Mariah and Celine they smashed because the Japanese public really heavily enjoy big huge ballads sung by big voices. Some of the biggests hits in Japan tend to be ballads especially the classics (pre 2000) I remember beyonce probably being the only fully black woman who smashed multiple times in Japan yet her recent work hasn't done too well in Japan. GAGA GOT SO MUCH SUCCESS BEcause gaga "s style is heavily influenced by Japanese street/coutour etc plus she promote quite often in Japan compared to other pop girls who pay Japan dust. She in a way tells them she loves and appreciates them by acknowledging Japan in every one of her eras

Truth in these posts

I love Japan but NO they do not. Not their mainstream big hits and best selling albums anyway. And there is a bias based on appearance. The sales don't lie after all
And even though Mariah is R&B mostly, and among my faves, you girls need to STOP speaking as if she's a dark-skinned female. Half of ATRL didn't even know she was mixed until recently. She looks white, hint hint a factor in her success there. It's a fact, just accept it.

What do you mean Avril too allegedly? Avril Lavigne and Mariah Carey are the most successful western artists to ever release in Japan. They both hold the record of most diamond albums by a western artist with 3 each. Michael Jackson has 2. There is no allegedly. Ariana, and Taylor are basic in comparison to Avril and Mariah's reign there.

No. They only care about image imo. It's almost like a parody of American Pop culture.

Hate to break it to you but Mariah is considered black in the US, as for the rest of the world, not so much.

I myself prefer Sweden's music taste. Japan seems to either like cutesy songs or ballads...and I am not here for either.
