I thought she declined and Brit was ahead of her.

And where are you getting these facts that International people don't know Janet? Did you travel to japan, australia, and europe and ask these people yourself? Where are the receipts other than you pulling stuff out of thin air.
You don't sell hundreds of million of records, and sell out WORLD tours with people not knowing you.

I can't think of a single Mariah tribute WTF were they talking about.

Sure Janet had her moment where she eclipsed Whitney, but she never had a level of dominance that Whitney had during The Bodyguard era. Didn't The Bodyguard movie and soundtrack basically overshadow the janet. and Poetic Justice eras?
And I'm not trying to take anything away from Janet. Eli and others would vouch for me and say that I LOVE Janet and have defended her a lot on this board.
|
Outside of her voice, Whitney's impact was not that strong to me. And I will keep that opinion. Just simply standing and singing does not cut it to be a pop star now a days. Especially a black one. Janet did and does, what all the girl HAVE to do now to make it.
You have to slay the music video
You have to slay the stage
You have to sell sex
You have to change your image consistently
If Whitney's rubric was more prevelant, powerhouses like Jennifer Hudson would be the bigger stars than girls like Beyonce and Rihanna. You gotta do more than just sing, and that's in part due to Janet.

Yeah.
That's not happening for Janet when she goes.

Its not happening while she is alive either sis. She is DONE!!! Her and those tired ass 1986 dance moves that she can barely hobble and do. Janet better march across that stage and give PRAISE to Michael if it wasn't for him, she'd be a FLOP nobody just like Rebbie and Tito.
Get your life at Whitney breaking records in LIFE and in DEATH!!! When is Janet gonna do it? Don't worry, I will wait just like Janet is waiting to be relevant again.

Janet has eclipsed Diana and Whitney because we use for more factors of being a pop star than hte ther two.
|
Alright. I can understand that.
---
but that doesn't make her name bigger, just her influence. the two don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. Like I already explained previously, with Donna having greater influence over pop stars but not necessarily being the bigger name (than Diana).

She never had "that song" that took over the planet in impact and is undeniably iconic to EVERYONE and not just certain groups. The closest she came was Rhythm Nation and half of ATRL doesnt even know that, which proves my point.
In the 80's and 90s Janet had a chance to sell MAJOR albums like everyone else, she did not. Whitney has THREE best selling albums of all time, Madonna has THREE, Celine has FOUR, Mariah, Michael, EVERYONE but Janet, does it get any clearer? Beyonce is one of the best selling artists of (her time) and by a huge margin too, she is ahead of every other black female artist just like Whitney was in every area.
|
At least Janet's biggest songs are her songs.
Janet only released two studio albums in the '90s. Dumb. She was still the second-biggest US act of the '90s with only two albums. She broke the record for biggest first week for a female, she had a record-setting recording contract and she had the biggest Hot 100 hit of any Jackson ever. To deny her power in the '90s is foolish.

You are so fazed by her. I honestly don't know why...
Well it's clear all these ladies have made some sort of impact, but I don't think people realize how relatively young the music industry is. Generations come and go, and so do the popstars. I wouldn't be surprised if Whitney isn't held in high regard 50-60 years from now. There's always someone around the corner who is going to do things bigger and better than the ones before ever did.

Janet will laugh all the way to the bank in the end.
Beyonce said it best,
"DIVA'S GETTING MONEY, IF YOU AIN'T GETTING MONEY THAN YOU AIN'T DOING NOTHING FOR ME"
RIP Whitney though.

Yes, Janet can have her money, Im proud of any black artist that can get theirs.
But like we said, Janets influence and impact didnt reach far enough, she got cut off at the water.
Beyonce, Whitney, Rihanna, and Diana are all famous overseas and very much so.
I mean!

Diana was the first big female pop star but Whitney took it to another level in the 80s and 90s. She made big voiced Divas the cool thing and paved the way for Mariah, Celine, Toni, En Vogue etc. to have success after her.
She is the standard for anyone female singer around the world. from Europe, to Asia, to Latin American if you want to sing you listen to Whitney. She might not have had much success in the last 10 years but her legacy lived on every season on American Idol, X-factor, the voice there is always a couple fools who try and sing her songs and they always get criticized for not being able to do them justice.
She has the album sales, #1s, Hit Movies and Soundtracks, successful producer, a ton of awards.
If beyonce can continue to have success she might take over Whitney but i vote for Whitney. Love Janet and she is one of my faves but Whitney was always more successful.

Also, Rihanna is arguably the biggest black sex symbol of all time, so that should help her out.

And that's perfectly fine, but there is a reason that when these all-time lists come on TV or are published on some website, Whitney is always above Janet, or Whitney makes the list and Janet doesn't. This was even the case before Whitney's death.

Single Ladies. nugh said!
All it takes is one, and she has TWO songs that will NEVER be forgotten!
Not to mention Halo, Irreplaceable and the songs she has yet to make.
Her name makes mountains fall, people rise to their feet, Beyonce the name alone is legendary.
Dont act new.
|
Every thing you said just basically translated to irrelevant. That doesn't make one a legend. And what "hate"? I said she's a icon, which isn't a bad thing. And as I said earlier, her music, performances, videos, etc. won't stand the test of time like a Madonna or Michael Jackson. 'Vogue' alone is more iconic than her entire discography.
