Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state
Then nearly 14 billion years ago, expansion started - WAIT!
The Earth began to cool, The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools, We built a wall, [We built the pyramids.]
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries...
That all started with the big bang! BANG!
Have you learned nothing from the Apostles [Raj, Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, and Howard?]
I'm seriously sick and tired of these threads. They happen at least once a month and no one's opinion is ever changed in the slightest. I may be Christian, but I acknowledge that there are a lot of discrepancies in the Bible and a lot of things that don't quite add up. I wish the other side would realize that there are discrepancies in the whole Creationist theory and either agree to disagree, or, maybe, JUST maybe, consider that we could all be right to some degree as well as wrong to some degree.
And the worst part about this whole thing is that some people claim that Christians are ignorant and unwilling to "open their eyes" to modern science as if that's not a completely ignorant statement in itself.
Bibliotheque, you are under the impression that science is "supposed to be able to explain everything," but that isn't true, and once you realize what the true goal of science is—to understand more about our world, and ask questions, and create theories following the scientific method so as to improve human life and comprehension—you will see that what you're saying about science "explaining everything" is nothing more than a display of your unwillingness to learn.
Science is not here to offer simple explanations to wrap your mind around and call it good, nor is it here to summarize our existence in a few verses and call it meaning and philosophy. Science is a tool, not an end.
Oh, and "there is no explanation so far; therefore God did it!" is nothing more than a fallacy that has been used by religious people all throughout history, from the grass growing, to an explanation for illnesses, to the Big Bang. You are not offering evidence, you are simply saying "I do not understand it, so it must be supernatural."
I know my summary of science was wrong, but what I'm trying to say is that no matter how far back science in the future will explain, I simply don't believe that something; whether it be particles, a "dense state" or anything else, can come from nothing, and that is a line that will always have to be crossed to explain our existence without God.
I respect all religions, but I don't necessarily believe in one.
And that's the most important thing. You don't have to agree with what someone else believes in the slightest, but at least respect their beliefs. Nothing worse than Atheists who claim that all Christians are ignorant, stupid, and homophobic or Christians that claim that all Atheists are ignorant, moronic, and incorrect.

Ugh.
I think you guys still don't understand what I'm asking.
Religions existed before Science so no, it is the other way around.
Where did I imply that science came first? Maybe I didn't explain myself well. Of course religion was first. I was saying that once science came around and answered the questions, people rejected them in favor of their religious answers that better comforted them.

It really embarrasses me when my friends (most of them are Atheist) are completely rude and bigoted to religious people (mainly Christians). I mean if they respect your belief, then respect theirs.
Free will. People can live their lives how they want and if you are religious (you will probably believe) actions will = consequences in the afterlife.

Anthropologically speaking you're right but organized religion came after Greek thinkers such as Aristotle and Plato who were already questioning life and existence.
