Religions don't explain anything. Once again it is a dogma.
Science on the other hand is all about proofs.
But this thread turned into people wanted to force their point of view.

“Again, I’m quoting my mother, but her take on the subject I thought was great. She said we know so much and can discover so much more, but what no one knows for sure is what exactly happens when we pass on. We we’d lose someone we would grieve, of course, but she would say, 'Now he knows the secret.'" - Betty White.

That's all I have to say on the subject.

Of course there is. Why do you think prayer is such a natural action?

Bibliotheque, you are under the impression that science is "supposed to be able to explain everything," but that isn't true, and once you realize what the true goal of science is—to understand more about our world, and ask questions, and create theories following the scientific method so as to improve human life and comprehension—you will see that what you're saying about science "explaining everything" is nothing more than a display of your unwillingness to learn.
Science is not here to offer simple explanations to wrap your mind around and call it good, nor is it here to summarize our existence in a few verses and call it meaning and philosophy. Science is a tool, not an end.
Oh, and "there is no explanation so far; therefore God did it!" is nothing more than a fallacy that has been used by religious people all throughout history, from the grass growing, to an explanation for illnesses, to the Big Bang. You are not offering evidence, you are simply saying "I do not understand it, so it must be supernatural."

Perhaps, that small speck that was the universe... Simply existed, just because it could. It didn't exist "because" something... It simply started to exist by its own means.

A miracle, perhaps, one that God did not create.
Think of it the way you think God is existence in itself. It's always existed.

Religion, on the other hand, relies on blind faith. Religions and churches are merely glorified cults. Religions were created to explain the unknown. The first humans didn't know why certain things happened. They thought it was divine or magical. Modern science, however, can explain most of their questions.
That's the difference. People wanted answers and comfort. Science gave them answers without the comfort, so now they reject science.
|
That's because we actually are irrational beings. We like to think there's someone super powerful that has never showed evidence of existence.

I don't think anyone's forcing. I think it turned into a stalemate of "you prove it" "no, you prove it."

Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state
Then nearly 14 billion years ago, expansion started - WAIT!
The Earth began to cool, The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools, We built a wall, [We built the pyramids.]
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries...
That all started with the big bang! BANG!
Have you learned nothing from the Apostles [Raj, Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, and Howard?]

Prayer is natural? I've never prayed in my life, or had the urge to

We'll all find out one way or another. That's why I don't bother restricting the way I live to a book. Whatever happens, happens.
If he's out there, I doubt he's the way the Bible makes him out to be.

Maybe I'm getting caught up in the wording, but how did religion exist before science? Unless you mean religion existed before we knew about science.

... You didn't read much of those few short sentences, did you?
People still reject science for the lack of comfort.
