I remember reading all those movies were made to cash-in on the sucess of Halloween, it's similiar to how Paranormal Activity has spawed several imitators attempting to cash in on its sucess. *cough cough* Devil Inside *cough cough*
And Physco was Halloween's biggest influence. Black Christmas is a Canadian made-horror movie, that wasn't recieved very well state side (was released under a different name too. When A Stranger Calls) The only reason most-people draw similiatries out of the two was because they take place on holidays.
I'm not feeling any of that Paranormal activity mess or its imitators.
What I meant by Black Christmas being Halloween's backdrop was that John Carpenter wanted use either the holiday or the escaped killer aspect of the story and that was it. Irwin Yablans came up with the idea to set it on Halloween, nixing The Babysitter Murders title. But yeah, Psycho was Carpenter's main inspiration for Halloween.
Hold on, there's an original movie called When a Stranger Calls that was in 1979. I never knew Black Christmas was renamed when it was released in the US.
Although Halloween 3 isn't exactly scary and has nothing to do with Michael Myers, it's still one of my favorites.
H3 will always be one of my favorite horror films. It took a completely different route than most horror films released in the 80's. I don't know why, but I see it as kind of a blueprint for The Ring, lol.

YES. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who loves it. To be honest, I didn't really appreciate it until last year. Growing up, I never understood the plot and symbolism. It was released way ahead of its time. And it's a shame that we didn't get more Halloween movies like it.

Yeah, it's kind of a blur when you're little, lol. There's so much to appreciate as you get older. There would've been more Halloween movies like that if H3 hadn't been so poorly received. The plan was for the series to be like a Twilight Zone type of thing after H3, but that didn't happen.

YESSSS, Dale! You better stan for that masterpiece.
Halloween 3 and NOES 3 are my favorites from their respective franchises.
Don't get me wrong, the original and New Nightmare both **** hard, but 3 captures the balance between camp and scary perfectly. Not to mention, some of the SFX were pretty impressive for the time.

It really is. Even now after watching the Halloween series atleast a dozen times, I notice new characters, lines, objects, etc. Halloween must be the most flawless horror movie series ever. It's a shame that they never had a clear idea of what they planned on doing with it, and it went through so many directors, writers and producers. Yeah, I remember John Carpenter saying that he only planned on having one Michael Myers movie and the rest of the Halloween movies were going to be completely different concepts. It would have been amazing, to be honest.
