Except the horror's creators admit to it, lol. Sean S. Cunningham said over and over again how he wanted to do a film like Halloween. Two years later, Friday the 13th was born. John Carpenter even admitted to using Black Christmas as a backdrop for Halloween.

Even though this film is completely different from other horror films, Wes Craven thanked John Carpenter for making Halloween because it knocked the door down for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

I remember reading all those movies were made to cash-in on the sucess of Halloween, it's similiar to how Paranormal Activity has spawed several imitators attempting to cash in on its sucess. *cough cough* Devil Inside *cough cough*

And Physco was Halloween's biggest influence. Black Christmas is a Canadian made-horror movie, that wasn't recieved very well state side (was released under a different name too. When A Stranger Calls) The only reason most-people draw similiatries out of the two was because they take place on holidays.
