About illegal downloads, I agree that it would be more representative of what's popular. However, it would hurt all the pop girls, and hip hop and RnB songs get illegally downloaded more than pop songs (because teenage "street" or urban guys are statistically less likely to pay for music). I read an article somewhere saying that the most illegally downloaded artists were ones like the Black Eyed Peas, T.I., 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, etc. So if illegal downloads do ever get included in the chart, you'll suddenly see those artists shoot up a bit more, and artists like Adele and Taylor Swift be less successful, since their fans tend to be more wealthy and law-abiding. Not that it's a problem, but you Lady Gaga and Katy Perry fans maybe should be careful what you wish for.

I can bet you my right hand that the pop songs that are all over the radio are downloaded 100 times to 1 illegally.


I mean by each legally purchased song there is 100 people getting the song illegally.

Also there are those people who wouldnt admit having that kind of music on their ipods...

HipHop fanbase is much more used to purcahsing music coz pop music is based more in casual buyers than music-genre fans

I mean like, hip hop/RnB, maybe for every legal download there's 50 illegal downloads, for the average pop song it might be 30 illegal downloads for each legal download, and then for country songs it might be 10 illegal downloads.

Hip hop (at least, the type in the charts) mainly appeals to males aged 12-25 perhaps, and that's probably the demographic that most likely to illegally download.

You're right that pop music appeals more to the casual listener. You get Lady Gaga and Adele fans that are like 5 year-old kids, and also 55 year-old women, neither of which would typically illegally download (and might not even know how to!).

Check on Google or something. I've read studies saying similar things to this before.

WFL is doing great. Leave it alone.
Sale were simply not great in the last couple of weeks, that's why it suffered.
#1 on digital selling the lowest since 2008.
And it's not like WFL is out of top 10 on digital.
Last week it sold 149k copies, SAIKI sold 149k too!
It's not like SAIKI selling 400k and WFL 100k.
It's just the market overall.

I'm mildly annoyed that WFL is an 8 week #1 that is getting outsold overall and now still week-by-week by SAIKI, which hasn't had the opportunity of going #1 yet. But that should change soon enough.
