It's a rather long way to 4 million. Of course those sales are not BAD. But for a 8 week-chart-topper they are low. Relatively, you know.

It will sell 4 million - which is great. It got lucky with 8 weeks because there was not strong competition for #1 - everyone knows this. It didn't get those 8 weeks at #1 because it's a "TT-sized hit".

And I love all the people who are so narrow minded.to not realize the context of Rihannas 8 weeks at number one and are either gloating or disappointed. The sales for the number one these past four weeks have been the lowest all year practically, and that's not Rihannas fault or an indicator of how big of a hit it was.

I do not see ANYBODY saying that Born This Way sold 'too low' for the success it had....

It sold 1M copies in a week and stayed #1 for 6 weeks yet it barely got to the 3M mark after a long time.

That is small sales for a huge hit?

You guys still do not realize its not easy to make 3 million people go and buy the same song.

I guess there are less than 100 songs in history that have sold more than 3M downloads... Just to show how difficult it is. Just coz people achieve it doesnt make it easier. Even less 4M or even 5M

Yeah!! I can't at someone that said if WFL doesn't sell 6 million then it's underperforming when only 6 songs in the digital era have sold over 6m.

Also 3 million it's not that easy as people believe, only like 12 or 13 songs sold that amount this year (not counting Firework and Grenade since their sales were split between 2010 and 2011)

It sold on hype + big fanbase. I don't know anyone in real life who really liked it. Just my personal observation, though.

Actually IMHO long term sales for song is that matters and WFL is very young song so is absolutely too early to tell about its success or fail in digital sales. Of course is not monster hit of this year despite it's 8 weeks @ #1, but it can became it in future. See how RITD, PRA is still selling months after they was #1. All big hits have one point together and that is longevity in sales. IGF still is selling 10K every week.
BTW was 6 weeks @ #1 but ended only 18 in year end term
SB peak was #3 but it ended as 8, because of long term sales and radio support.

It topped the hot 100 for 6 weeks, longer than both of her 6 million sellers combined. It sold 1 million copiez in a calendar week. It should have sold more.

I agree but it was still a smash.

I think the best example of this is "Rude Boy" I mean it topped the Hot 100 for 5 weeks but it sold like 2.6 million last time I checked.

THAT is a good example. Rude Boy topped the Hot100 chart for 5 weeks BUT NEVER TOPPED THE DIGITAL SONGS CHART.....

That shows how the BBH100 chart-type is not the best

I still prefer a sales+airplay based chart. a chart based on sales alone is kinda flawed IMO.
