What is filler? For me, it's a song that is only put on the album for the purpose of filling up the tracklist. It serves no real purpose for the theme of the album, and has no value at all, but it looks good at #11 on the tracklist.
Now, just because a song will never be a single doesn't mean it is necessary a filler. With the current discussion about Cockiness being a filler, I have to disagree. Yeah, it will NEVER be a single because it's way too suggestive, but that doesn't mean it doesn't serve a purpose within the album.
Here are examples of filler from recent albums:
I'd rather say that it's a filler not because it's suggestive. Cockiness, in my perspective, is a filler, firstly because it's 2:52 minutes long. Second, because the production sounds somewhat dated, and lastly, because Cockiness is to me a so-so song. I don't want to argue with anybody, I just want to bring debate material into this thread, but keeping it classy guys..
By the way, I believe TTT overall feels not rushed, but something like 'instantaneous'. And that's the reason why I feel many of the songs on here sound filler-like.
And I have to disagree with Bad Kids and Rather Die Young.
Even though I don't think Talk That Talk has any filler and I do think Rated R does, I find RR to be the better album. I think that's a testament to the fact that having filler doesn't make an album bad.

Just a few,when you listen to the album a couple of times the fillers stand out and not in a good way.

also, the production is not dated, it's raw.
and the fact you don't like the song is NOT a good argument for calling it a filler.
