Rihanna did 3 times X Factor and now is huge in UK for that reason... so yes, promotion is important expecially if your current single is a "semi-ballad"

Compared to other places in Europe, the UK music state is such that sometimes anything which isn't: grime/rap, ultra generic, electronic - David Guetta/Pitbull, Rihanna or from people like JLS and the Wanted (boybands) it has no gurantee of huge success.
it has no

To be honest, and this may be asking a bit much, but I want her to be the Rihanna of this series... I want her to perform more than once and perform with the finalists.

Exactly. Rihanna is the perfect example of how TV promotion can DRAMATICALLY affect album/single sales in the UK.
People are making out like it's a bad thing that I'm asking GaGa to come back to the UK. It is what it is. She's not going to continue to sell albums over here unless she does more promo. It's been almost 2 months since she was here last. Time to come back.

I'm not sure that she's heading to Europe. (Idk? maybe)
And doesn't You and I still need to get added to Radio 1 and Capital FM later this week? Partly why it's not moving much yet.

It should be added tomorrow.

I'm Brianna (Bibs is a nickname). I'm 18 from the UK. And I can tell you, out of the big US females I think they all need to do promo here apart from Rihanna who is HUGE - unless they get practically ignored.

And when she was here she only had one promotional appearance, on a TV show with 3-4M viewers... It isn't like being on a musically-driven show with 15M. Her performances at R1BW and Graham Norton can't even be counted as promotion for BTW. They built hype, which resulted in the huge first week sales, but they will have done nothing for longevity. She has only done one post-album-release promotional appearance, which isn't good enough to sustain sales. But it's ok, because she has various opportunities coming up now which weren't available back when the album first came out. I just hope she makes good use of them.

Yes it does. Ballads in general have less of a chance at success - unless you're Adele of course. Even Rihanna's California King Bed only got lower top 10 here in the UK with no promo - although she's always been huge in the UK since she came out. Alexandra Burke (another big UK female act) only managed #18 with The Silence.

Exactly. After all Gaga is American artist. She needs to do promotion in order to stay relevant in UK.

Well that's the problem. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Radio 1 doesn't playlist You & I. It's SO not like the stuff they usually play. I'd expect Radio 2 to be much more into it though, as it's more of an AC kind of track. I honestly can't see Radio 1 supporting it though.

I was expecting bigger sales in the UK this era to be honest.
But seeing how the album is doing not so good over there, I don't see the problem in her focusing a little bit more in the UK. Sure, she shouldn't need to come to the UK whenever she releases a new single, but if that's what it takes this era, then be it. As long as it's profitable, her label will probably book an appearance. After all, the UK is Gaga's 3rd biggest market.

Well, Rihanna is huge there, so that's why she promotes there more than everywhere else. When people like you, you go to promote 'cause it increases your sales. It's virtually impossible for Gaga to hit every major market without literally flying to a different place each and every day. If I'm not mistaken, the UK was one of the first stops on the promotional tour Gaga did when BTW came ot, right? Gaga's huge in 20 different countries, so she has to spread her time out. Also, from what Troy was saying, they're planning to span this era across 18-24 months, so she'll be back.

The album's just gone platinum in the UK though so its not all bad. Sales should actually go up this week due to Y&I and The Edge Of Glory being performed on X Factor.

People really need to realize that Lady Gaga is MUCH bigger in other countries this era versus at the start of TFM era. That explains the whirlwind push in Asia, and hell, she even had that one magazine interview in UAE. Her promotional schedule will be spread more thin across more countries, and that does mean some areas will be taking a hit chart wise while she's flying around. She was out of the US from mid-May through most of July.
She still needs to shore up herself here after all of the time abroad, because You and I is just beginning to launch on the radio.
She is bound to return to Europe eventually, she's huge there as people have pointed out. Luckily when she left, Edge of Glory was a hit on Euro radio so that'll buy time until shes back.
