I hate to sound like a snob, but any self-respecting homosexual would disown Lady GaGa. I understand her heart is in the right place but she doesn't realize how patronizing she can be in many of the things she says. I admire her efforts to advance the gay community but it does seem a bit exploitative too. I always thought Cher and Madonna earned their gay followings because they were fierce, flamboyant, independent crusaders. Lady GaGa seems like too much of a sycophant, too cliché, too desperate to please and with little finesse.

I highly disagree. Cher and Madonna were fierce and flamboyant, so they deserve the gay community's respect? What, exactly, have they done specifically and explicitly to advance gay rights? Gaga has made her career about accepting and embracing everybody, and she actually makes sure to mention gay people every chance she gets. She campaigned politically for the repeal of DADT. DADT was repealed.
So... how is Cher more deserving of our respect than Gaga? You mention self-respecting homosexuals. Personally, I think it shows more self-respect to admire the activist for speaking up, rather than the fierce flamboyant one simply because she's fierce and flamboyant.
