People, people... listen -- some of you are focusing on the wrong idea. I'm not suggesting Britney Spears or Katy Perry heard a Ke$ha song and said to themselves, "I want to make something like that." The question is to be looked at in a broader sense. Ke$ha's specific sound, in the female pop industry, was not prevalent in America... and now it IS after her success.
I don't think HIAM is a bad song, but it's definitely signified the end of Britney Spears as the most relevant force in pop. GaGa, Ke$ha, Katy and Rihanna have all released better music recently. She's following them.

I agree. Although Britney did have some influence on their current music.
It's kinda like The Black Eyed Peas following the trends they created in The E.N.D. with The Beginning.

I thought you hated her?
Britney influenced them all, read my signature
if Ke$ha and Katy have released better music lately, why the critics trash their material?

I don't think Britney is following them. Her producers are the same as those of K$ & Katy. They've produced sooo many songs for K$/Katy in the last 2 years. Britney coming on the heels of 2 years of K$/Katy bombardment was bound to make it difficult for those producers to create music for her that is different from the sound "claimed" by K$/Katy in the last 2 years.
Ke$ha nor Britney get enough credit anyway, but in this case, it all lies with the producer, Dr. Luke.
Britney's productions really led the way for Ke$ha's. If you look at some of Brit's tracks from Dr. Luke (i.e. "Circus" and "Shattered Glass"), Ke$ha's sound borrowed elements from them and then, built upon them. "Hold It Against Me" has borrowed elements from Ke$ha's sound and built upon those. It all has to do with the progression of the producer.

If you suggested that "Hold It Against Me" sounds like "Take It Off" taken to the next level, then maybe you would have an argument. But since they have the same producer, there's your explanation.

Let's see if HIAM sells like Tik Tok and CG.

She could have gone to different producers. Dr. Luke and Max Martin are the go to producers for a hit nowadays, numerous people are using them and that's why there's similarities between their songs. She should have worked with someone else. Dr. Luke is overused.

Yeah but Britney used them before Katy/Ke$ha.
However in the last 2 years those producers produced sooo many big songs for those two girls. There's only so much variety you can come up as a producer and still make a radio/digital hit.
