I'm against it. School is for learning, not religion.

The sooner we eradicate organized religion, the better.

Morality is all relative. And it's really up to parents to raise their children "right." School is for learning.

^ School is for learning why parents suck at parenting and you need to open your eyes if you don't want to be classless like your friends.

WTF at some of you guys? Eradicate organized religion? The whole reason society has gone DOWNHILL is EXACTLY because of that. Back in the day, society's were much more peaceful and wholesome when religion was the center.
But I'm not saying that we should return to that, because I honestly wouldn't like that at all. But what's wrong with prayer? It's a personal thing somebody should be able to do. I don't think people in public school should be forced to do it, but a student shouldn't be prevented from doing it personally.
But then again, I go to a private religious academy, so that's all

If I want to pray in school I will pray in school and nobody is going to stop me.
It's really not that serious. Bye.

I'm not hating on religion, I think a belief in moderation is best.
But to say that we were more peaceful when religion was at the center is WAY off.

Prayer is an individual thing that should not be pressed upon anybody. Students can pray to themselves during class, in the bathroom, on break, before/after school, etc. There is NO REASON for it to be over the intercom or as a class together.

If religion is making us all so peaceful, explain the faith-based attacks against the United States. And the Crusades for that matter...Religion has always brought about hatred and animosity. Imagine no religion, just love for the universe and each other....

Will it be a Catholic prayer? What about Muslims, Jews and Hindus who don't know such prayers? It will do nothing but segregate this kids even more.

Morality and religion are not as together as some of you think.
Religion is in many cases is what leads to hatred or violence. Some of the worst atrosicites world have been committed in the name of a religion.
Morality comes from your upbringing and decisions that you make yourself, it does not come from school or whether you go to church or not. I am not Christian and about 80% of my classmates aren't either yet students at my school are famous for manners, a sense of right and wrong and for intelligence.
Morality doesn't come from religion

Funny it seems that religion teaches people intolernace, hatred and to judge people off of one thing.
If religion taught morality there would have been no religious crusade, there would be no westborough baptist church, there would have been no 9/11 and no attacks on homosexual teenagers, especially in schools.

Please people would fight over diffrent things if religion didn't exist. I'am not paticular religious, i am catholic, but don't go to church regularly at all, but religion ( not extremist that are in all religions) does teach morals, does make you more understanding and does help you to be a better person. Your generalising and being intolerant.
P.S any gay bullying i've heard of in schools is not done because of religion.

There may be some moral teachings in various religions, but a lot of them speak of other things everyday people would find very immoral. I don't think i have to go into detail.....

Christianity teaches that being gay is immoral and punishable, so it is totally related. I'm not being intolerant, I just don't think that saying prayers in school is going to make kids better behave, that is a stupid assumption. Behaviour of some kids has certainly gotton worse but it's to do with today's overall society rather than a decline in religiousness.
I am not religious at all, I was brought up in a Christian family but i was told to find my own way. Yet I am at my core a good person and very understanding. You yourself are now generalising.

Actually gay bullying is more of a culture thing rather than a religious issue..
Especially for a patriarchal community... You know the tea...
I'm fine with prayers in school... It sets the mood for me... And if you're an atheist then just don't pray. Easy as that...

And indeed homophobic behaviour and intolerance is a product of more than religion BUT those people use the anti-homosexual teachings in the bible to defend behaviour that is in no way defend-able.
I don't think the issue is prayer in schools, I think it's when it is obligatory for you to pray, it's disrespectful for those who are not Christian and whether it is a Christian country or not, it is also a free country, a country where you are free to practise whatever religion you please so being forced to pray to a certain god in school, is wrong.
