#20 shouldn't happen. Schools are to learn. Church is to pray.

If you have a "moment of silence" at your school, you already have prayer in there. Right wing Christians are sneaky like that

I remember at lunch time in 4th grade, I was the only Christian sitting at my table. I prayed over my food, like I usually do. I was made fun of for it. At least I really wasn't bullied, but it hurt my feelings as a little grade schooler

That isn't right. Public schools are free or have very low fees, private schools cost a lot of money that a lot of people simply can't avoid. Does that mean strictly religious people should be discriminated against? If they need prayer time, they should be allowed it. It doesn't have to be in everyone's faces.
Collective prayer time however is not right.

In my school we have moments of silence for remembrance, it is respect for the dead. I don't see anything Christian or right wing about that. I think it is important to remember how lucky you are to be where you are.
My school is Methodist but we don't get religion shoved down our throats. We have to take religious education but it is a total joke. And in our school we have the 'Chapel of Unity' for all religious denominations to go if they need some time.

But religion, as it is right now, is not allowed to be public in public schools in America

Christianity is tolerated and respected. So why shouldn't other religions be. I may not be religious myself but I am a firm supporter of freedom to religion.
Some of the **** I have seen Muslims go through in American schools is downright appalling.

Other religions should be tolerated, but America is a Christina country, whether we say so or not. Its just is.
I've seen some accounts of religious ignorance leading to more violent approaches in my school as well. It's horrible

Well from what I hear America is the land of the free. Not the land of the White-Christian and Straight.
I just think all religions, sexualities and races should be treated equally. Sadly it doesn't happen and it most likely never will. There is always going to be a target group, a group that will be segregated and discriminated against. Thanks to narrow-mindedness and the media.
Tolerance is not enough, respect for other beliefs is needed.

I didn't mean "moment of silence" in the sense that you would remember those who have died - different context.
At my HS, we had a moment of silence to "think about our activities for the day and what we hope to accomplish." It had nothing to do with remembering the dead. I know my HS isn't the only one to do that - if I'm not mistaken, it's probably most of the schools in the state and other states who adopt similar legislation It is a way to get prayer into public school without having the label of prayer.

But you can choose to spend that time thinking about whatever you like, it is better than having a prayer read at you and in a way it is respectful of different faiths.

Do you live in a red state? I am unfamiliar with those customs in my state, but I live in a blue state, so it's understandable

It's supposed to be, but as you are probably already familiar with, it's not always that way, and is still not.
I wouldn't blame EVERYthing on the media. I mean, yes the media is to blame for a lot of Americans acting the way they do, but sometimes social constructions, backed up by the media, further enhances the divide that shouldn't be there in America.

Correct, nothing is imposed so it doesn't violate anything. But it is a guise for prayer, or to allow the possibility of prayer in public schools. Since someone does it over the announcements or the teacher lets the class know when the moment of silence is to take place, it is organized and led. You're just not being told exactly what you need to be doing during that time.

I didn't say just the media. And I also said it isn't that way. So you pretty much just repeated what I said.

Yep, my guess is that such things only occur in the South or other deep red states. That's just a guess though.

I think that is much better than what we have, which is a prayer read out in assembly. Nothing is being forced on anyone and sometimes some silence to gather your thoughts is no bad thing.
And if you do pray, you can pray to whatever god you so wish.

Agreed, it's much better than organized prayer to a specific religion's God.

Of course it should be. Removing religion out of western schools is no doubt the number one reason why today's morals have backslidden so far.
