Fences was amazing. The directing wasn't that great, but the picture was stunning. It was really Viola's movie, whew. It was definitely better than Arrival for me. I hate those Nolan-esque films like Interstellar, Inception, etc. that rely more on mind****s than stories about the human condition.

Funny cuz arrival was more about human condition sis lol you just gotta think about it. It makes you think but the message was perfect the weekend after trump won... how we judge people before knowing them and HOPE. I didn't get interstellar it was just way too long. Arrival wasn't like that one nor inception.

What surprises me the most is its LONG runtime. When I watched the movie I was completely immersed that I was shocked to see it ended so soon. Later did I learn it is almost 3 hours . I was sad when it ended because I wanted more. Have you watched Arnold's previous features? Are they as good as this one?

yas i agree. i know a lot of people said they didnt like it bc of how long it was/how tedious it was, but i was just so entertained by even the scenes of everyone doing nothing but just enjoying their selves.
and i haven't watched anything else from arnold i've been meaning to watch fish tank tho since i've heard that's really good too !

Bustle predictions
Annette Bening — 20th Century Women
Could 2017 finally be the year Bening gets her Oscar? She has been nominated four times since receiving her first Academy Award nomination in 1991 for her supporting role in The Grifters (1990), and is enjoying her seventh Golden Globe nomination for her role in 20th Century Women. Bening is a highly respected Hollywood actor, with a body of work that is certainly deserving of the award. And her performance as a single mother struggling to raise a teenage son in 1979 in 20th Century Women could be just what she needs to finally walk away with the elusive Oscar.
Amy Adams — Arrival
Amy Adams, like Bening, has been nominated by the Academy multiple times — five, to be exact — and never won. But, in Arrival, Adams delivers some of her best work yet. The only thing standing between her and an Oscar nomination this year could be buzz and the timing of Arrival, which was released in early November, long before La La Land and 20th Century Women swooped into theaters and into the minds of viewers. (On a personal note, I'm pulling for Adams to finally take home the Oscar she so greatly deserves this year.)
Natalie Portman — Jackie
Portman has drawn rave reviews for her performance in the non-traditional biopic, Jackie. She's as much guaranteed a spot on the 2017 Oscar nominee call sheet as any of the women listed here — which is to say, her nomination is basically a sure thing. If nominated, it would be Portman's third Oscar nomination, and her first since she won the Academy Award for her performance in Black Swan in 2011.
Isabelle Huppert — Elle
It's looking more and more likely that Huppert will be one of the few actors ever to earn an Oscar nod for their performances in a foreign film. In Elle, a French film, Huppert plays a woman who survives a brutal rape in her own home and turns the tables to get revenge on her rapist. Huppert has had a long and illustrious career in Europe, and with a Golden Globe nomination under her belt, she's looking pretty unstoppable in this year's Oscar race.
Emma Stone — La La Land
Emma Stone is expected to take a spot in the Oscar's Best Actress in a Leading Role category this year for her performance in La La Land. Stone, who was previously nominated for her supporting role in Birdman, is not only an audience favorite, she had the good fortune of starring in one of the year's most highly anticipated films. La La Land is exactly the kind of movie Academy members love voting for, and Stone is a star everyone can get behind.
Strong Contender: Ruth Negga — Loving
Ruth Negga, who turned heads with her performance in Loving, is probably the most likely to knock one of the actors above off the list of Oscar nominees come late January. Loving is a very quiet Oscar contender this year, but Negga's understated performance could end up overpowering Stone, Portman, or Adams when all the votes are counted. Even if she doesn't make the final cut, as a close Best Actress Oscar contender, she's in good company — Meryl Streep is likely to come close with her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins.

So far I only saw Sully, which was ok, and Arrival which was the best movie I saw this past year. Excited to watch the rest.

Objectively, the actors most due for a win based on the televised awards that their Oscar-nommed work has gathered:
Annette Bening, 58 - Globe Kids, Globe Being Julia, Bafta + Sag American Beauty (+)
Leslie Caron, 85 - Bafta Lili, Bafta + Globe L-Shaped Room
Julie Walters, 66 - Bafta Billy Elliot, Bafta + Globe Educating Rita
Ed Harris, 66 - Globe Truman Show, Sag Apollo 13 (++)
Michelle Pfeiffer, 58 - Globe Fabulous Baker Boys, Bafta Dangerous Liaisons (+)
Johnny Depp, 53 - Globe Sweeney Todd, Sag Pirates (+)
John Hurt, 76 - Globe Midnight Express, Bafta Elephant Man
Personally I think AMPAS should have followed Bafta's example and given Julie Walters at least a comeback nom last year for Brooklyn, but that's me.
And then the people one could argue are due for a 2nd win with a multiple-major-awards-winner since their win:
Kate Winslet - Steve Jobs Globe + Bafta (and as an extra, she also lost after taking Sag + Bafta for Sense and Sensibility. By my count no one else has 2 more multiple-major-awards-winners than Oscar wins.)
Jennifer Lawrence - American Hustle Globe + Bafta

Asian Legend wins Best Actress in the Australian equivalent of the Academy Her biggest win so far Looks like the "industry" is backing her!
It's not yet over Portmaniacs, Stoners are going to give you a hard fight especially with Asian's inevitable Globes and SAG wins

Just finished 20th Century Women and Annette is amazing
Honestly, my ranking of the potential nominees sans Meryl would be Isabelle > Natalie > Annette > Emma >> Ruth >>> Amy at this point. Amy really doesn't need another nomination

We'll know for sure tomorrow after the Globes I guess. I am sure Emma Stone is winning her Globe but I have this hunch that Isabelle Huppert will beat Natalie Portman, which shouldn't be the case cause Elle is a comedy, albeit a dark one, while Jackie is a straight up drama. Anyway, if we see Portman being beatable in a televised show it is pretty much over
