Yeah that's the reason. As I said, she could have cut the track and done it acapella or just mimed her way since the instrumental was loud enough.

All singers need to be accustomed to not using the ear piece and if you need a monitor to remember one of your biggest songs that you perform on tour and in vegas .... that's another problem

These make a lot of sense, but the **** ups with Mariah's performances in recent years happen so often that it's really hard to say what does and doesn't fall on the production team and/or Mariah herself.

I think the response to your question is already on the last reply - you even emphasized it. If she mimed it, she'd get more criticized for it.

Hey, she's also human. She probably got caught off guard by what happened. We don't know what's going on inside Mariah's head while it's happening.

we have to feel sorry for someone who lip synchs while she does nothing else on stage or is known for just the singing.., while they shade an artist who got pulled & moved on with the choreo and sang LIVE at 56? the ageist criticism for all things that were not her fault.. all the rehearsing she did compared to this lazy singer..

I can see there being possible technical issues but she could have handled it much better.

And if she couldn't hear then she could have just said technical issues. And went on with WBT because they had the vocals on that track but she just gave up.
