Especially when it comes to 5H, they have a lot more notoriety being the only girl group to have American success this decade. Being featured on another artist's hit song indicates nothing. "But nobody bought Bad Things bc of MGK!!!1!!" Well yeah, but nobody bought Me Myself & I because of G-Eazy and it was still a big hit. Some songs smash without any of the artists on it being particularly big. Camila's two features doing pretty well on American pop radio do not indicate her potential as a solo artist in terms of touring, album sales, international appeal, etc. She's gonna get lost in the sea of other solo artists that have moderate WW hits trying to break through (Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa, Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, and many more). Her stans will get a huge humbling sooner than later.

It's only a matter of time before we see if she will succeed or not, but y'all are definitely underestimating her fan-base and connections. Trust me, this girl is no Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa or Haillie... and you will see As of now, this thread is full of assumptions and opinions that can be validated once she releases even more songs (because her two features are either top 20 or top 10) Anyways, I'll quote Billboard:
Quote:
"One thing that isn't being debated, however, is Cabello's potential as a breakout star. While it's not unusual for one member of a group to try his or her hand at a solo career -- even while still attached to the group, as Beyoncé did while still in Destiny's Child -- it is rather uncommon for someone to stand out in a collective as much as Cabello has over the past years. In terms of collaborations, her top 20 hit with Mendes highlighted Cabello's breathy delivery, while her authoritative turn on Machine Gun Kelly's "Bad Things” launched the fledgling rapper into the Hot 100 top 10. Yet Cabello has also demonstrated -- through her hilariously self-deprecating Snapchat antics, revealing interview quotes and intimate interactions with her 3.2 million Twitter followers -- a superstar's knack for connecting with fans and standing out from her surroundings."

Just reiterating what people have been saying–she's selfish.
It took me half the year to like Work From Home (which she ruined) but they definitely don't deserve this. Labels are so ******

The selfish comments are so disgusting.
Fifth Harmony makes little to NO money and then it's spilt 5 ways. The girls all live at home. They are treated like crap. Camila, who didn't get along with the other girls, finished her contract and had the support of her label to pursue solo music after being in the group FIVE years. They didn't just start with Worth It, people.

She had the support to do it while in the group. She just went about it the wrong way. She's selfish bc she wanted them to go on hiatus/put their dreams aside so she could pursue hers or she'd walk. They didn't accept the hiatus so she chose to walk. Don't fault fans for being upset. The fanbase invested SO MUCH TIME (like you said, FIVE Years) into making them happen. They didn't even win on the X-Factor.
Let's not use the "money" thing to justify this. Yes, it's sad but they were on the brink of something great that would pay off in the end. The other 4 chose to stick it through... why couldn't she? She wanted the spotlight to herself. That's why she wanted them to go inactive for her sake. That is ****ed up no matter how you spin it

I gotta hand it to Epic, they played this really well. Signing the girls to cover both individual artists and group contracts... Smart move.

I think it was a calculated risk, but the right one, honestly. It's better for her to go out on a hot era than wonder as to if they could pull it off again. I think she'll fare a little better than the Alessia's/Hailee's/Zara's/Bebe's but her album sales will still be tragic.

The never ending lashings she's going to get if 5H doesn't come back for a 3rd album She's actually really selfish tbh. I can see having your own ideas and wanting to do things by yourself, but she went about this in the worst way possible. The 4 other girls don't think they're anything special, so why should she? But not everyone can be a Beyonce and release with the group and as a solo artist

All of this reminds me of Nadine of Girls Aloud. She wanted a solo career so bad, the group went on hiatus bc of that (like Camila wanted for 5H) but she ended up bombing while Cheryl also released an album during that time and smashed instead of her
And they never really came back from the hiatus bc Cheryl became a huge artist in UK, they only reunited for a greatest hits and that's it
Imagine if Camila pulls a Nadine and Lauren pulls a Cheryl
Anyways, good for Camila for following her heart. As much as i'm sad, i can understand that she can't be forced to do a thing that she doesn't want to. I'm rooting for her as a solo artist too.
To the girls - i want to see them back together but i don't think it will work. Or maybe it will? WFH and Flex don't have Camila as a lead, so maybe they can have a hit. If Epic decides to end the group (and i think they will do that) then i'm rooting for them as solo artists too.
But i have to agree with most of you here, Camila should've waited for a third album before going solo. And i wanted one more OT5 album.

Excellently put I do think she has potential purely because radio programmers seem to like her, but there's no denying that the only girl group to have success in the US this decade is a MUCH better selling point than yet another relatable, "artistically focused", quirky girl. Personally I just think Camila is being extremely short-sighted, but I guess you sometimes make short-sighted decisions when you crave more and more of a spotlight.

HOLY **** reading that article it literally sounds like this situation EXACTLY
When presented with the claim that the split was decided by herself [Nadine] and her bandmates Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl scoffed: 'She’s full of s**t. What d’you want us to say? She’s full of s**t. She was the one who wanted to make a solo record. Which is why we took the hiatus. So she’s not now going to say that we broke up the band. No? That’s it."
Cheryl then spit the truth: 'Okay, so do you want us to tell the truth? She wasn’t going to make another Girls Aloud record until she got a solo deal.
'I feel she held us to ransom And then made her solo record deal. It’s the truth. She’s saying that we broke the band up. So there you go.'
This is EXACTLY like Camila's situation with 4H.
[happened] - C decided to do a solo record (just like Nad)
[happened] - C held the group to ransom "If 5H don't go on hiatus, I won't continue 5H." (just like Nad)
[will happen] - Lauren or co will create solo material (confirmed in letter 2) [just like Cheryl]
[possible] - Lauren or co pull a Cheyl and will be more successful
[possible] - C pulls a Nad and will flop and say 5H management or some **** broke the group up
[possible] - Lauren and co will call her out on her **** saying she didn't want to continue the group unless the group took a hiatus for her own advantage

How on earth is anyone underestimating her (and 5H as a whole's) fanbase? Despite how rabid their fanbase is, they had to cancel dates on a tour that was hardly ambitious capacity-wise, and it took 5 years for them to merely approach a point where it may be possible for them to one day actually sell a decent amount of albums. And now she's gone and pissed off at least a decent chunk of her own fanbase.
Zayn also pissed people off, but aside from the fact that he and 1D are a trillion times more popular, there was also clearly a big gap for a male pop artist like him alongside Bieber. OTOH, the female pop market is so full right now.
Camila certainly has a lot of connections, but that's the thing. 5H have always gotten more attention from blogs, radio and the ~pop industry~ as a whole than the actual public. I'm sure her first singles will do at least OK. But it's going to take a hell of a lot for her to rustle up enough interest for anyone to give a **** about her albums and touring.
