Beyoncé didn't evolve at all! She's still doing the same urban pop thing she has done since the beginning, still doing the same performances, same choreo, etc. The only thing that changed was she became more sexualized, darker, and has now found the best way to get free publicity is to exploit social issues for attention (without actually saying anything deep, profound, or meaningful). That's not evolution, it's called switching some things up to keep some relevance.

Rihanna reinvented her image with each era.

Gaga evolved from TFM/BTW to C2C and now to Joanne.

JLO evolved in the sense that she took on more ventures in different areas, and succeeded.

No one takes you seriously since you openly said you don't like Beyoncé and also because you post more about her than about your actual faves. If your whole post wasn't a lie since she literally tapped into many different genres with her last album alone and did switch up her perfomances with her last tour. If J.Lo did this album you'd be running around praising her versatility. That's why.

Honey, Rihanna went from AGLM to GGGB to Rated R to Loud in 4 years, then she switched her sound from pop to urban with Anti (it started with Unapologetic). She's completely changed her sound & image with each of those albums, let's not.

First evolution was A Girl Like Me to Good Girl Gone Bad. And I wouldn't call Loud and Talk That Talk "unevolving" because even while they weren't huge leaps forward musically, they helped shape the direction she found with Unapologetic and further honed in on with ANTI.

With this logic everyone is always evolving because every step you take (no matter good or bad) is one towards your ultimate growth.
I think the OP was talking about when this growth became noticeable, which in Rih's case is only ANTI, let's not kid ourselves.

And my point is that at those points, especially Unapologetic, it was noticeable, just not as fully-formed.. To my ears, ANTI is a fully-formed/perfected representation of the ideas she was dabbling in on Unapologetic. Unapologetic wasn't as sharply focused but it was the beginning (or, continuation, seeing as Rated R is where it really started) of the moody, downtempo vibe mixed with the confessional lyrics.

Phresh Out The Runway, for example, is a sonic precursor to Woo.
Get It Over With paved the way for James Joint and Never Ending.
Close To You carries on where Stay left off.
Kiss It Better is kin to Diamonds + Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary.
Likewise Lov7 song to Needed Me and Yeah I Said It.

Rihanna is basically doing the same ish since Loud or the album after it, she just goes a lil harder sometimes. Now, Beyoncé had a drastic change between almost every era. Even when you compare self-titled with Lemonade that come in the same "visual album" package you notice that the videos/music are distinct, and have different purposes. She is totally evolving.

Being objective, you can argue the same regressive pattern with Bey going from B'Day to IASF. They both have had moments of heavier commercial pandering at the expense of their overall artistry. I don't think that negates either Bey or Rih's overall journeys and I wouldn't be so quick to write off Rih's just because Bey is further along in her own.

Rihanna made a big switch with GGGB. She tried out a different sound and she changed her look and her image. Rated R was the darker version of GGGB. Loud felt like a jump, but I personally didn't like it cause it felt like she was regressing. Then she evolved again with ANTI. The lyrics on the album are different from any of the ones she had before. Much more honest I think.

Beyoncé evolved several times. I feel like ever since B'Day every album was just a little more extreme than the previous one. B'Day was very much about self-empowerment and the satisfying her own needs, not losing her voice. I think playing Deena did a number on her lol.

I Am Sasha Fierce was a concept album where one side of the album was about Beyoncé and the other was about her alter ego. While it wasn't executed well I think it showed some sort of progress for Bey, especially musically as she found the balance between rhythm and melody.

With 4 obviously she decided to go against the grain completely and that was a brave move for someone so popular. She went back to making the music she loved as a kid because it meant something to her. She didn't want the world to forget about R&B.

Obviously she evolved from 4 to BEYONCÉ. Musically it was pretty drastic, she experimented with sounds and vocals and even her look. But BEYONCÉ to LEMONADE is probably the biggest shift because to me it seems like she's finally let go of her "pop brand" and she was really intent on telling a story and make some powerful statements about society and about music.

That's not necessarily evolving though.

Like, I don't think LOUD was an evolution, just like I don't think I Am Sasha Fierce was. But they were both good for their careers, which allowed them more freedom in the future. At least Bey did something different on IASF and played with the structure of her album and Rihanna got to completely revamp her image again and not carry the darkness of Rated R with her for too long.

But I think those albums were made for commercial success.
