From a career perspective Rih will always be a singles driven artist and Bey an album driven one, that's just the way it is and there's nothing wrong with either. So if Rih wants to keep her global single success up I can only applaud her for that.

But with her albums I feel like she can really show the top artist she can be and hope she will continue to do that.

both evolved. Just because you didn't like the albums (and woo, you at least posted about not doing so 100 times this year), doesn't mean they aren't evolving. They are in a direction you don't want them to.

Also Beyoncé was the biggest Female Artist who released this year. I'd call her anything but a flop. Some people on here really tend to see their opinion as the holy bible and ignore facts. Typical

Being objective, you can argue the same regressive pattern with Bey going from B'Day to IASF. They both have had moments of heavier commercial pandering at the expense of their overall artistry. I don't think that negates either Bey or Rih's overall journeys and I wouldn't be so quick to write off Rih's just because Bey is further along in her own.

And let's not argue about if Sasha Fierce was such a step down and sell-out from B'Day 'cause I'm not one of teh hardcore "only urban Bey" fans who hate that album. Sonically it gave us everything from SL/Diva to Satellites to WDYLM and it has shown sonic growth for Bey.

You acknowledged that she could possibly continue on her current course, but then immediately referred to Rated R/Loud as if that meant something about where she is now, but ok.

And I didn't say IASF in its entirety was bad, but she made concessions in the quality and coherency of that album for the sake of having lots of easily digestible, widely appealing music after she'd forged a pretty unique musical identity with B'Day. But that album didn't produce as many back to back hits as DiL and the music climate shifted more in favor of pop, so yeah -- we ended up with a one foot in, one foot out album. It has definite bright points, but it's her most generic, disjointed and worst overall body of work, IMO.

Beyoncé didn't evolve at all! She's still doing the same urban pop thing she has done since the beginning, still doing the same performances, same choreo, etc. The only thing that changed was she became more sexualized, darker, and has now found the best way to get free publicity is to exploit social issues for attention (without actually saying anything deep, profound, or meaningful). That's not evolution, it's called switching some things up to keep some relevance.

Rihanna reinvented her image with each era.

Gaga evolved from TFM/BTW to C2C and now to Joanne.

JLO evolved in the sense that she took on more ventures in different areas, and succeeded.

One featured single =/= someone's direction though.
And every album is created by scrapping and starting over.
Rih's mistake was to do that publicly, but nonetheless that doesn't make the journey towards the finished album any less authentic.
