On top of that, there's was nothing groundbreaking about any of Swift's albums nor Adele's album (except her record-shattering sales). The same way there is nothing groundbreaking about Lemonade.

If we go by the Grammys criteria, Bowie is the rightful winner. sorry, beyonce denouncing her cheating husband isn't a bigger "artistic achievement" than Bowie making an album about his own death.

There is a big difference between genre bias and racism. We need to learn to differentiate. Genre bias would be ST and TPAB losing. Also note, no major RnB or rap artist has won in any of the major categories in awhile. I would see the claim for racism had Iggy won any of the awards she was nominated for.

The committee likes safe, old, and basic music. RnB and hip hop don't fit those molds. It's more genre classicism and bias than it is racism.

I didn't claim that at all. I said Radiohead had all the ingredients to win; akin to a number of previous AOTY winners. That wasn't related to me saying Lemonade isn't groundbreaking.

I don't agree in this case. The grammy committee also favored Pharrell's album (hence it beating ST for Urban Contemp Album). It's only logical the two of them split votes in the AOTY category, allowing Beck to claim it with the entire rock base of the voters behind him. Don't think that was due to genre bias. Urban music had 2 representatives in AOTY that year (whether Pharrell should have been there or not is another question entirely).

Well, we all assumed the best album would win, not the artist who did the most ass kissing to the Grammy committee and half the music industry. I mean, this was the one instance in which everyone knew and agreed on which was the best album.

The point is - he was ignored by the Grammy committee for decades. And as harsh as it might sound but now that he's dead, people shouldn't jump on it and put him on a pedestal. I think it would be wrong to do that and would be quite an honourless move (especially for the Grammys). I don't say it because Lemonade is most likely to be nominated as i doubt it'll win with this years stiff competition. i'd just rather have it if we talked about Adele and the others as the head-contender for the award as i'm sure that most of ATRLs members and the media outlets wouldn't be talking about Bowie if it wasn't for his death either.

i hope that doesn't come across the wrong way.

But his album was acclaimed before he even died. He should have a fair shot, just like everyone else.
