But this kind of highlights the issue. You don't need to be systematically
oppressed to feel some kind of way about opaque double standards, offensive statements, being the butt of a joke or a constant barrage of negative generalisations. The fact that when accused of racism against whites, the only convo which comes up is "systematic oppression" instead of, oh sorry for offending you. As if prejudice, racial discrimination & negative generalisations are ok as long as they don't quite meet the clinical definition of racism. (which is up for debate)

Not sure it had a huge role to play In the election but I'd imagine it being a slight factor for Trumps under 35 white turn out.

Depends who we're referring to when we say racists. Many people, including POC can fit under that moniker depending on how loosely you throw it around.

I'm not talking about people who wish ill upon minorities & hate them with a passion. Or people dense enough to believe all people of one group act and behave as a monolith.

I'm talking about people who want tighter border control, people who fear religious extremism & terrorism, people naive enough to think Trump's lack of political background means he's for the people, people who have distain for the political stronghold of the Clintons (many democrats included here), the people who see Trump offering some sort of plan whilst the left are only audible when they're attacking Trump, people who only see the violent extremes of inner city gang crime from the outside looking in and emphasis with the police over BLM. The point is these are not bad people but some of their views and perspective may vary from yours and to demonise them at the first opportunity doesn't really get us anywhere. It just ensures that the political divide is even greater as there is no actual room for conversation, only echo chambers.

I'm not naive enough to believe that a different tone of conversation would have changed the minds of most people who voted Trump, but I'm also not naive enough to believe that everyone who voted for Trump is disgustingly racist.

Being silent in the face of bigotry, racism and oppression (or actively plugging your ears and ignoring it, in the case of many of the non-racist Trump supporters) automatically puts you on the side of the oppressor.

Trump supporters keep repeating how liberals are at fault for Trump's win because white America got tired of being called out on their racism and bigotry. But voting for a racist bigot as a way to get back at liberals and minorities only further proves the point about you being racist and bigoted. Like what kind of flawed reasoning... Voting for Trump is the last thing you should want to do if you're trying to show that you're not hateful.
