BLM could've been bigger if the emphasis was made on positive things, a lot of non-black people were supportive of the organization and protesting with them. But it didn't fit the narrative BOTH sides are spreading.

This is such an ignorant post. BLM protests racism state sanctioned violence against black people. It's not anti-white.

I think a big problem is people are giving too much attention to extremists and then wonder why no one understands the other.

How about other social movements?
Plenty of people see other social movements as anti ___ due to radicals and it's because they want a reason to be easily dismissive.

I do this by still maintaining all my original opinions. But the second you align yourself with a specific "group," another group member across the country can do something idiotic and still make you look bad.

Read the post I'm quoting please. I'm talking about the way it's perceived, not making an affirmation. I know it's not anti-white.

Death at people acting like racism is this newly formed concept. this **** has BEEN going on for decades, the only difference now is that people of color have the means and the voice to speak out against it and that is clearly making white people uncomfortable
the nerve of someone to actually say "it wasn't until 2011 that these racist attacks started happening" whew
And I don't know how anyone can seriously expect people of color to stay silent and compliant after being treated like **** for DECADES. but now that we're actively fighting against it, it's a "problem", it's "an agenda to start a race war", it's "trying to get people to hate white people for the **** that they have caused." pathetic and transparent is what it is, blaming people of color for their reactions to being mistreated for so long instead of blaming the people responsible for mistreating them

People need to chill. Not all whites are evil, hateful, and racist. There is a fringe group that truly wants to have other groups perpetually oppressed, but the majority of white people do not share those views.
We also need to stop generalizing all whites who voted for Trump as poor, ignorant, inbred hicks. This is as insulting as his generalizing statements that all Blacks and Latinos are poor, uneducated, and living in dangerous ghettos.
I understand that we have been angry. It is OK to vent, but at some point we gotta move on and unify. We should be better than this. I hate and condemn racists as much as we all should, but at this point this is getting exhausting and unhealthy for us as minorities and for our nation.

Seems like you're too worried about how people who disagree perceive you...
And even standing for something as an individual can get you blamed for others just look at this election.
But alright.

There was just as much racism, but the difference was black people were just taking it.
The minute black people said 'we've had enough' white people couldn't take it anymore.
So you turn on western news and see 'black people in uproar' and 'black people mad' and that's because they have reason to.
There was just as much racism before, the only difference is white people not being able to handle minorities standing up for themselves.
|
All of this. White America's hate for black people was ALWAYS there. It's just that black people had to sit around and take it up until recently. And that's when all the racist white people got fed up and started trying to silence us even more. The media helped demonize black people and the BLM movement at every chance they got. BLM at its core (and the overwhelming MAJORITY of BLM supporters) was never based out of hate for white people or a "black superiority" complex. The world CHOSE to view BLM as hateful and regressive by only focusing on the bad apples of the bunch.
But if we did that every time a white person shoots up a school or a movie theater and kills hundreds of people, white people wouldn't stand for it.

Not really. Being pro black doesn't mean anti white but being pro white means anti black.

True. There's never going to be a way to completely isolate yourself and be judged on your own w/o any bias. I don't consider myself worried, but I do like try to control (some of) the things that affect my image.
Not in a selfish way, but in a protective way.

Yeah, because it's not true. Trump also captured many a middle/upper class white woman who either were overtly racist or didn't think that racism is that big of a deal. These same women also didn't give much credence to Trump's misogyny and chose to vote side with racial identity over their gender.

White people hold more institutional power in our society than black people.
