Unless its pop music, you always find some excuse to justify the single being successful. When will you understand that Rihanna is a versatile artist who has been successful at all genres and that's why she is successful and the most talked about pop artist.
Please explain why Run This Town went #1 on radio and #2 on Billboard? Because Jay Z and Kanye and Rihanna are just so hot America just forced themselves to like the song?

If you ask me Rockstar 101 will be a big hit for these reasons
1). The song is about partying, and what do people absolutely love to do in the summer? PARTY.
2). She has great momentum from "Rude Boy" so i'm sure radio would love to see what she has coming up next
3). The song can be played on all formats. Pop, Urban, and Rhythmic. Maybe a few rock stations will play it if we're lucky (kidding).
4).

Your just...
You are the one who dragged me into this stupid argument. I don't care about Chart performance, if a song is successful, it's just an extra to the dessert.
At first you started with the "Expert panel" that chooses singles. MOTS had two more potential singles - Let Me and That La, La, La. But they weren't released. MOTS would have eventually sold more copies.
Actually, Run This Town was so close of reaching #1. It was, again, blocked by a huge single which is I Gotta Feeling.
Hard, Russian Roulette gained minimal success isn't only because of the intense promotion, it's also because it's Rihanna. So much power in her name.

Your so annoying, I wish I could find the interview. It's still clear as water - Rihanna said she felt like her music career was like reading a script, so she felt like she had to break through - So she went into a studio, cut her hair, put attitude on and created GGGB - Without the Label knowing what's happening. Eventually, they liked it.
Def Jam has been treating Rih horribly. Music of the Sun had only 2 singles, and A Girl Like Me was released half year after MOFS.
Can't you notice the pattern?
Pon De Replay, her debut single, was updated and hot dance track at it time. It peaked at #2 and stayed there for 3 weeks because it was blocked by a huge hit (We Belong Together).
SOS - Umbrella - Disturbia - Take A Bow - Rude Boy. All of them are Pop songs. Take A Bow is an exception since it was in the time where Rihanna was so hot, every track she released could have soared into #1 on BHH and iTunes. TAB was also a huge Radio hit.
Live Your Life is the same too, Rihanna and T.I. were just so hot at the time, and both of them collaborating was just too much for the poor people to handle

Def Jam is helping Rih. No shade, but really don't buy that stuff I bolded. The reason being because if she really had the control she said she did, she would of had at least one writing credit

They just put me in the studio and I started recording and recording, and it showed the direction of who I became as an artist.[...] We figured Good Girl Gone Bad was the perfect title because it showed people I'm my own [person] now. Not doing what anyone wants me to do. I'm not the innocent Rihanna anymore. I'm taking a lot more risks and chances. I felt when I cut my hair, it shows people I'm not trying to look or be anybody else. The album is very edgy. We have some urban records, some really pop records
|
Owned? I don't think so. I actually love most songs of Rihanna - Wether it's Pop or not. We are talking about the MAINSTREAM public here, which is totally different case.

It's common for labels to only give 2-3 singles to a debut artist. Especially since If It's Lovin' That You Want' was only a moderate hit. It wasn't because Def Jam was treating Rihanna like crap.

It's mostly the Label that decides when it's the time for a new album.
Just take a simple test yourself -
Make a young kid listen to 'Rude Boy' and 'Rockstar 101', and tell me which one he prefers.

of all the artists def jam, RIHANNA should be the last person people say they've hurt ... they obviously invested A L0T in her & most people saw her as just a one hit wonder but they took time in her & helped her build her name up to where it is right now

Oh god! 2012 is coming! I forgot ONE SONG which was a single and Rihanan was credited on! I MUST BE THE WORST FAN EVER!
Not saying Def Jam aren't investing in Rihanna - Just saying they are leading her to the wrong way.

I agree that Rude Boy is more appealing to mainstream....uhhh, that's why it was released!!!!
which song do you prefer over R101 as a single? Compare those.

Since when did little kids determine the success of a song?
A little kid shouldn't be listening to either song, too much mature content

I dragged you into this argument? So now im controlling you? Were you not the one you clicked "Quote" and replied to me? Secondly, Rihanna wanted to move on to a 2nd album to experiment with the new genres she discovered since living in America. A Rihanna fan would know this. All of your statements have been deflated, proven wrong, and shown to be far from accurate. Must we continue this argument or do you wanna continue embarassing yourself?

if it was another random person & not someone TRYING to be a fan it wouldnt have been a problem
& def jam aren't leading her the wrong way, they wanted her to make an album just like GGGB like somebody said earlier but she wanted otherwise & that's how we got rated r srsly, how would you n0t know that?

Actually, they are perfect to determine a song success. Today's people don't care about the Lyrics - If the song is catchy (Especially the Chorus, something to be stuck in their mind) they"ll immediately love it. Just like little kids.
It's an effect of the Fast Thinking which is a result of the Competition.

Don't forget they invested more money into her than Christina Milian, Amerie, Fabulous, Chrisette Michelle, Teairra Mari, and even the great Mariah Carey. Damn they really hate her dont they?
