Your so annoying, I wish I could find the interview. It's still clear as water - Rihanna said she felt like her music career was like reading a script, so she felt like she had to break through - So she went into a studio, cut her hair, put attitude on and created GGGB - Without the Label knowing what's happening. Eventually, they liked it.
Def Jam has been treating Rih horribly. Music of the Sun had only 2 singles, and A Girl Like Me was released half year after MOFS.
Can't you notice the pattern?
Pon De Replay, her debut single, was updated and hot dance track at it time. It peaked at #2 and stayed there for 3 weeks because it was blocked by a huge hit (We Belong Together).
SOS - Umbrella - Disturbia - Take A Bow - Rude Boy. All of them are Pop songs. Take A Bow is an exception since it was in the time where Rihanna was so hot, every track she released could have soared into #1 on BHH and iTunes. TAB was also a huge Radio hit.
Live Your Life is the same too, Rihanna and T.I. were just so hot at the time, and both of them collaborating was just too much for the poor people to handle
