Which seems the most odd strategy in this day and age. I mean I could understand it 10 years ago, to use the whatever sticks method since everything was based on sales. But currently in the streaming age there are so many ways to use it in their benefit. I mean just release and promote the record and watch iTunes and streaming services to see what other tracks get streamed/bought and base the other singles on that. Labels are too focused on first week sales, that they don't seem to be open for alternative strategies focused on longtivity.
I mean I get this logic, I really do (as a fan). But...
...that's wasted money from the label perspective. Streaming helps, but it's still not going to make up for the fact that...if people aren't feeling her or the song, it is what it is. She's not going to magically get more listeners by releasing the album anyways. And getting artists on TV shows and getting these major performance slots actually cost a lot of money. Usually the label is paying for: 1) to get them on the show, or 2) hair/makeup/staging/talent fees for the performances. So it's pretty costly - especially for a song that's not taking off on it's on.
And after they release the album w/ no hit, the people listening to the album are more than likely going to be her core audience, which they already know she has an album out...which doesn't really give them insight into what songs would work as a single b/c they're basing it on her core fans...not what will resonate with the general public. It's a huge ass catch-22.
That's mainly why labels wait until it catches on first.
The "Sex With Me" Remix was actually smart - if your label can't come thru wit some ****ing promo, you gotta get creative. It seems like people are actually starting to remember her existence again (very slowly, though.)
I said this before, but she should have done a mixtape in between Player and SuperLove. She could have played it off like Player was a part of the mixtape instead of her album. Just like Sevyn Streeter did with "Don't Kill The Fun"

I get your logic, but on the other side. Recording sessions also cost money (like her working with The Dream and Tricky for this song), shooting musicvideos do aswell. How longer they gonna postpone this record, the more money it will cost in the long run.
That is why I think at this point after all the mess they rather could just put it out. She has released a handful of songs already and nothing really sticked and nothing really got promoted well.I doubt she is gonna get a hit out of nowhere, aslong as her label is gonna handle her single releases as non-events.
This era already is pretty much tainted. At this point I wouldn't even be mad if she would release just a simple 10-track release, without additional editions just to get over this era. And start off fresh in 2017 for a 3rd record.

So if she never gets a Top 40 hit, this album will never be released? This is a huge disaster. I hope the producers who worked on the album don't end up taking their songs back like how Hit-Boy did with Joyride (the title track).
I seriously wonder what her album contract with RCA is like. How many albums does she have left with them. And it's sad because when RCA first signed her she was really happy.
What is it that you guys not understand? The labels don't make money from streams. That is why they heavily despise it.
I know some of you might hate to say it, but the singles she has been putting out is weak. It is plane and simple. Her image is basically nonexsistent. The GP don't know who she is as an artist and therefore can't identify her. As a result, they overlook her altogether.
The more I think about it and the more I discuss it with some of my friends, I don't think that the issue is soley on Tinashe not getting any promo. If y'all want to admit it to yourselves or not, she is the only new r&b girl getting the promo that she is getting now and she still is getting pushed. These are facts people.

That actually would have been good
Good point. Yeah, I agree...she's wasting a lot of money either way. I just think it's going to be more like: release the album, no promo, go in to start recording album #3. I don't think they're going to pump money into a project they don't believe in.
Either way it sucks, because the album is pretty much a done deal at this point.
Like, great for the fans if it's released. But that also means the label doesn't care about the project. anymore at that point. That's why I wasn't really sweating the postponement the first time - shows that label actually DOES care and think she can be successful.
It's just an unfortunate situation...mainly b/c of the lack of good songs and bad overall image (i.e., not sure if she's playing Pop or R&B lane).

Sis, we've all accepted that Tinashe is lost, musically, and misguided. She's spent the last year trying to become a crossover pop / r&b artist, which is a lane that's been extinct since the early 2000's, other than Rih of course.
But there's definitely other factors to it. Her "peers" aren't exactly slaying either. Her r&b peers (Sevyn, Kehlani, Teyana) are also struggling for the most part and the new pop girls are not exactly taking off. The industry has no space for what Tinashe wants to be and that is definitely not something she should be blamed for.
I still love Superlove but I'll admit she needs something stronger. I just want it to take off on radio so that it can at least open the doors for the next single.

Only difference is though, is that Tinashe actually had a breakthrough hit opposed to those girls. So, she was THERE...she just couldn't hold it together and choose the right singles after getting there
"2 On" was a great crossover record....great start. "Pretend" was a horrible follow-up, and it went downhill from there. Honestly "AHOD" should have came next. But even then the rest of the album sounded nothing like those singles either

It's the total package though. Her material isn't the strongest, but even though she still gets pushed, her singles era's mainly get 2 broadcasted performances if we are lucky and beside that the song basically has to build from itself.
Ofcourse labels don't make money from streams, I don't even use streaming platforms (beside YouTube, if that counts) myself But it is an important factor in some markets for succes these days.
I mean let's be honest All My Friends could have been even bigger had RCA put some coins and focus to the song, it actually could have been the ticket to launch this era, yet they just let the ship sail. And here we are with Superlove, where they probably spent a lot of money on to get the producers on the track, they spent coins on a good visual and there is no sight of an album.
Superlove is currently C-list on Uk radio and Just Say B-list. If her label has any sense, they should try to promote her overseas and make both those songs hits atleast across UK and maybe the rest of Europe and there is also a big possibility that with a bit of focus Australia also would eat those songs up.

Don't get me started Ugh, I still hate her for that
Sevyn had It Won't Stop and a lot of the new pop girls have had moderate hits too, but no album in sight and no establishment in the game. It's hard out here for a bitch. Lily Allen, ha prophecy
But yeah, I get your point. I think nobody in her team (including Tinashe) knows who Tinashe wants to be or who she should be or how she should bridge the two. I mean, didn't she almost release I Luh Ya Papi with the n-word as a lead single before 2 On happened? We got lucky with 2 On, I guess, and we just have to wait for her to get lucky or for her to find someone who knows what to do with her so that she won''t have to rely on luck

If another label doesn't sign her then she should just go back to being independent then and continuing to make PBR&B music as a way to get back her core fans etc. Most of her fans think that her mixtapes are better than her mainstream stuff (I think so too).
It also contributes to the reason as to why she should put up her mixtapes on streaming services. If the GP don't like her mainstream stuff, they could give her mixtapes a listen. She could also earn some coins off that.
