If this doesn't become a hit, RCA should just go ahead and drop the album. It's been a year delay already and that's bad enough. Hopefully there will be an album cover/tracklist/pre-order announcement this month tho

True but a lot of labels seem to be about this "we won't release your album until you get a hit" mentality. It seems to be more common now than before.

Plus I do think all the exposing of issues between Tinashe and RCA (like leaking Party Favors, telling fans via DM that they're focusing on Zayn and how the Player collab was a label set-up) had harmed things too.
The label probably felt like "we're going to punish her for all this bad press and exposing of private affairs/going against us" she's been doing.

Honestly this is the first one of her singles that I haven't immediately clicked with. I loved it after the music video, and still do, and wish it would smash, but it's not going to. I dunno what her label was thinking with this song. It's too dated and there's no real structure to it (sonically, anyway). They could've made AMF a hit...I'm just beginning to think she's never getting a hit. But as long as we get the album, I guess I'm good. Doubt it will be better than Aquarius though.

Which seems the most odd strategy in this day and age. I mean I could understand it 10 years ago, to use the whatever sticks method since everything was based on sales. But currently in the streaming age there are so many ways to use it in their benefit. I mean just release and promote the record and watch iTunes and streaming services to see what other tracks get streamed/bought and base the other singles on that. Labels are too focused on first week sales, that they don't seem to be open for alternative strategies focused on longtivity.

I get why it wasn't released after Player, cause they wanted to give her another chance at a proper era / launch. But we can't have another pushback and the fact that it's September and we have no album news worries me. Just put it out

She had a hit this year with All My Friends which is a song by Snakehips featuring her and Chance The Rapper. It went Top 5 in the UK and did quite well in some parts of Europe. It has also been certified Platinum in the UK and Gold in the US and that was as closest they were to getting an actual hit.

If it was pushed properly in the USA, it would've done better.
