Professional music criticism hasn't focused on the musical theory aspect of the compositions since....ever. It's all about contextualizing the music in terms of genre, influences, and its social significance.

And what I'm saying is literally how critics operate. They need a standard for comparison.



They're not just flinging out scores. They're drawing from a reference point which is her previous work. And if we say that reference point is BEYONCE, which also earned high 80s and 90s with half the cohesion of Lem', it makes sense that Lemonade got higher scores given its more ambitious undertaking.
