That may be true in regards to her having a breakthrough but technically she started as a solo artist in 1982 with the self titled release debut.
Since Jet was denying this, I told him well in 1997 Destiny's Child didn't have breakthrough success. They had breakthrough success in 1999 and onwards. Beyoncé also started her solo career in 2003.
Jet and others have also claimed Janet's career ended in 2004. Not true. Since 2004, she has released 4 studio albums, 1 greatest hits, and went on 3 concert tours.
Understand now?

Ah I see.
But still, in 1997, Destiny’s Child did break through onto the charts. It’s not as if they were not unknown at the time. Anyone with a big hit, peaking at #3 is known. Clearly not with the fame they would later have, but not unknown by any means. In fact, No, No, No landed a #12 spot on the 1998 Year End List.
Comparing her to Janet, when she debuted in 1982, nothing she released peaked higher than #58. So likening DC’s first era to Janet’s is a bit of a stretch, since the level of success DC experienced far outweighed Janet’s.
I’m not sure the point you’re trying to argue though… that Janet has had a long career? I agree completely with that.
