Thing is she didn't grow up with the culture I think she talked about this a few times. All she has is the last name and dark hair/eyes. Not surprised about her tweeting this.
You wanna see what a real Latina in the mainstream looks like: j Lo always there for her "people", Eva lonngoria, Rosario Dawson, Sofia vergara, Shakira and yes Becly G( )
Sadly we don't have many girls representing us.

SB, i love you but you need to get off the cultural high horse. Selena is white washed because she didnt grow up with her father. Her parents divorced when she was 5 and she went to live with her italian mother. The idea that a person is less mexican because they didnt have the opportunity to learn the language and culture is awful. My parents didnt want to teach me spanish and went out of their way to give me the whitest name possible. I didnt learn spanish until i was in high school. Does that make me any less hispanic? no. Whether or not you latinos see her as one of you (and you should), the rest of the world does. Maybe she doesnt discuss issues in the latino community because unlike Eva, Becky G, Shakira, and Sofia, she was raised by a white non latino parent rather than a latino one.
she wants to get in touch with her mexican roots, its just difficult for her without her dad's family.

with that being said, selena may not have been very active in the latino community, but she has been doing philanthropy since she had a career and has helped people in poor countries gain access to necessities through her position as ambassador for UNICEF. To write off all she has done for charity because she doesnt tweet a hashtag or hasnt focused solely within the latino community is disheartening
