I didn't become a Rihanna fan until GGGB--that album was built on great hooks, but Rated R is loaded with emotion, all of the songs are well-composed and honest.
Amerie is straight-up soul and she's all about melody. Both her and Kelis make some of the bravest, most creative R&B music out there.

Please, stop. You're embarrassing yourself.
You pointed out Janet is making music that is based off catchy beats yet here you're saying ____ has great hooks. Amerie and Kelis (especially, Kelis) create their music where the beats are the center piece. Never the other way around.
Geez, how biased.

It's structured weird. The random backing vocals are unnecessary makes the track confusing and a bit messy. Too much Pitbull & not enough Janet.
I loved that parts Janet had though & the production.
I just hope she comes WAY harder then this, it's nice for what it is.

Damita Jo:
Just A Little While couldn't even make the top 40. It was a REALLY good song and a perfect 1st single. It was an international hit, hitting the top 5 in Canada and the top 20 in majority of the markets. So why didn't it go top 40 in the States? You tell me. MTV didn't play her videos, radio didn't play her songs. She promoted it but it didn't help at all.
I Want You was ignored by radio.
All Nite was another awesome song and was once again overshadowed by that stupid controversy in the States.
Damita Jo sold well outside the US, hitting 1.4 million.
Need I say more?

I'm sure of myself because it's my opinion? None of those are reasons the album flopped anyways. There's plenty of artists who don't get hit singles, yet sell tons of albums. Considering Janet's an Icon, you'd think she'd be the last to flop.

I don't pass judgment without thoroughly listening to the artist. I'm not like SOME people that pass judgment based off sales. How transparent. When we all know Janet's achievements can easily trump your favs

WRONG, again.
Damita Jo didn't flop for one. I didn't know going multi-platinum was considered flopping. OOPS! and second she was being blacklisted (and still is) because of the Superbowl.

I never said you had to have one or the other. You act like I don't know Madonna or Kelis or Rihanna's music contain a ton of beats, but I'm just saying beats alone do not constitute music.
Damita Jo, 20 Y.O., and Discipline all had melodies but I just felt those albums were slept on and redundant. This song doesn't have any structure whatsoever and that's what makes it so irritating that people are praising it.

Janet didn't give free tickets for the RWU tour. You're misinformed and cruising for bait.

Her last album, 2006's "20 Y.O.," stalled at 648,000 units in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while 2004's "Damita Jo" moved 999,000.

And that's from a random sales spark that Def Jam also did with Mariah's E=MC2. So I know Discipline has not sold 60,000 more copies in the last 11 months after 2 years from release.
I won't fight opinion, because I'm not that kind of person. But I will base my facts. Janet's sales are an indication of her music is getting bad. #1, the fans obviously don't like it as many are begging for her to back to her Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis days. #2, the critics are pounding in on her each album.
And no, she gave away free tickets on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well on a few other promotional markets.

I'm not passing judgement based on her sales. I've already said that I think her last few albums are terrible. I own all of her albums up to Damita Jo because I fortunately listened to the last 2 disasters prior to purchasing. Her sales are just more of the fact that she needs to change.
I could give a crap about her achievements. That's so 1980s/1990s. If she isn't pleasing with music, her accomplishments can go to Hell.

Who are you to tell me I'm wrong? This is what I think, not you child. Compared to the 3 million+ All For You sold, plus all the heavy hitter albums of 2004, LESS than 1 million (not multi-platinum) is a flop. If those were her sales now, I'd give her a pass because she's older. But no, she can't even break 500,000 now.

No, you don't know. You're ASSuming it didn't.
Again, what was your point of bringing her sales up? Just cruising for bait.
"But I will base my facts. Janet's sales are indication of her music is getting bad" The stupidest thing I've read on this forum. How ridiculous! Please take time out of your day and go to Billboard. com and see who's topping the charts. Ke$ha? Lady Gaga? Jay Sean? Give me a flipping break. Janet's music is bad in comparison to these people? The only fans begging for her to get back with Jam & Lewis are her older fans that grew up with her when she was creating music with them. Jam & Lewis didn't contribute to Janet's last album. That's all. But they were on every album as main producers. Critics praised her latest efforts. Make Me got positive reviews. The demo for this song got reviewed. Yes, critics reviewed a demo. Also reviews for the full version are popping up when this just leaked 6 hours ago.
You can't be serious. Just like any other touring artist! This is a part of promotion. Radio stations promote the touring artist on the radio and offer free tickets to go see _______. Have you not heard of this?

No, I just have a thing called common sense. Why would it sell 60k more copies when it wasn't selling anything beyond May 2008? You need to get a grip with reality, the album is not beyond 500k if it hasn't been in the Top 200 since March last year, where it randomly reappeared for that one week.
Stupidest is the most stupid thing I've read on this forum. I'm not even talking about OTHER artists. I'm talking about JANET JACKSON. HER music is getting bad. I didn't compare to no one else, I haven't even brought up anyone else. You are, showing your insecurity. Her sales are declining = her music is getting worse. That's what I believe, so deal with it.
And Ellen DeGeneres is not a radio station, it's a live television show with a large audience. Have you not heard of that? I'm done with you. You're pressed, delusional, and crazy. Bye!

All for You sold 7+ million and Damita Jo 3.6 million WW.
Again, what's your point? Does sales = good music to you. If so I'd hate to have a look at your iPod. You're probably not even a fan

What is your point? This way before the tour even started. She's giving other people a chance to see her live. You sound pressed and is clearly trying it! You've brought up her sales and tours as of late for no reason whatsoever. Just to start ****.
Poor you.

God, I feel like I'm talking to a mental person.
My point was always her music isn't good anymore, which has been making her unsuccessful. You turned it around into me saying she's not successful, so her music isn't good, WHICH I never claimed. I've just stated her sales just support the fact that her music is going downhill. It's not difficult.
I don't look at sales at all really, until something like this comes up. Otherwise my taste is very widespread. Sorry for the misunderstandings. I just hope Janet gets back in the mood and pleases me again.

That's your opinion if her music isn't good. Her moderate success as of late can be blamed on her poor single choices, lackluster promotion from her label and the fact that she's still being blacklisted from radio.
Discipline is an album that could've charted well with singles like "Luv" and "2nite".

Just enjoy the track for what it is! That is why I never come on this board. You keep talking about her being blacklisted, banned, etc. As long as her fans like it, let's support. Bobby and others on this board will never like what she does. Just ignore them and enjoy. Peace!

How sad. And here I thought you and I respected each other and came to an understanding.
Janet has only released one album in the time that I've been on ATRL so I don't see how you came to the conclusion that I never like anything she does. Maybe it's better you stopped coming here because you're too short-sighted and thin-skinned to engaged in civilized debate without dismissing another person's opinions as "hate." I'm sorry, but Janet set a huge precedent with Control through AFY and most of the things she's put out since are gratuitous and not worth my time. There's a line between being a loyal fan and being a blind follower and I'm glad I haven't crossed it.

I didn't like this. I like how it started off but I became disinterested afterwards. I hope she throws this away.
