Because he thought it was necessary for his own various reasons? I can't put words into his mouth. But the truth is, he refused to start the war because he had clear foresight as to what that would probably happen in the region, and that seems to be supported by the facts.
As a Middle Eastern who has first-hand seen the cost of the Iraq War on us, I can assure you that a lot of what Bernie said in regards to the invasion did in fact come to life. He did have the right foresight back then and he didn't vote againat the war because he's allegedly unable to compromise, that's a horrible way to dismiss his record and vision.
Although considering Hillary voted for the Iraq War, I can't say I'm surprised
