Hispanic gay men are becoming disproportionately affected by HIV. There's an increase in new infections among them. A lot of Hispanic gay men also come to America for treatment if it's too expensive or scarce in their home country.

Yes to both of these.

A lot of persons living with HIV that I've spoken to said they were infected by a partner or someone they trusted. I've learned not to trust anyone with my body. Even if you've tested negative consistently, we're still using protection.

People do go by looks and think it won't happen to them. Especially with STDs, which are only 20% symptomatic, they think if they see or feel nothing, they're OK and it's not true.

I think the issue is even some schools in better income areas still lack sex education.
Sex education among other forms of education is severely lacking in the U.S and it's even worse in urban communities.

There are tons of factors most of which was already summed up by Kishi.

About the advertisements, I think Adonis has a point that some people are missing like it or not it does affect peoples views, media and overall local public consumption can alter a persons point of view.

These ads create a stigma of its own towards a community who is already facing strife in many areas and ads like that one while attention grabbing doesn't really help.

What does an ad like that accomplish? it also has potential to create a very awkward dialog without the proper tools on how to tackle the issue with a loved one.

I think there's room for both conversations, Ace isn't wrong and Adonis isn't wrong either.

I've never heard it "leveling off" among any POC group in the US but it is absolutely rising among the white gay male populations. The reason for that; in my personal opinion is a new found lax attitude towards condomless sex aka "bareback" sex. dont even think its a matter of personal opinion, its just factually what is happening. it has everything to do with the lax atttitudes towards condomless sex; which has risen due to the fact that hiv is no longer considered a death sentence, unprotected sex is what is promoted not just in p*rn but in mainstream media/music as well, and because our generation is so far removed from the aids epidemic of our elders. were like the bratty youngest sibling that doesnt care about consequences.

Even if that were the case it's still not a valid excuse not when other gays of different races are willingly having unprotected sex.

Heartbreaking statistic. It definitely boils down to education though. Sex education should start much earlier. As much as people don't like to acknowledge it, kids start this stuff EARLY. Same reason we have a lot of teen pregnancy.

And maybe it feels better without condoms, and some people just like engaging without disclosing their status, some even taking pride in tricking others.

I doubt it. Most of these people are just going for skin/looks and stereotypes. I doubt people on grindr would care too much that someone might have HIVs enough to discriminate an entire race. Although it wouldn't surprise me with some people.

Edit: But what about the "no Asians" people? Since they're the model minority I imagine they would be considered more "perfect" to white gays but in reality they're pretty much on equal grounds as the rest of us.

Yup, these are also very real issues. I recall a friend of mine saying how he was with this guy for a few months and he kept asking him if they had to use a condom due to "it not feeling as good"

That didn't last for very long.

That reminds me of one of my earlier hook-ups. This guy complained about the condom making his thingy limp and tried to get it raw. But I simply told him to get looser condom after trying them on myself. Luckily for him he was so hot and I was not about to let the night go to waste so I had a condom in my wallet

So yeah I imagine that trying to wear condoms and not having the right ones may be a factor in rawing.

I don't even see the point in ppl doing **** like this. I've recently had a condom break on me right before I was ready and the decision to finish with or without is awkward and uncomfortable af for both parties. Lol.

Plus, you've gotten that far in the process, might as well finish the right way.

I look at it like they just want an excuse to finish inside them which sets a scary precedent. Your situation is different and understandable and as you said if you got that far with it on why not finish that way?.

Exactly, it's about race and stereotypes.

And on the "model minority" bit. It has been used as a weapon towards other minorities all the while brainwashing some asians into hating other ethnic groups for being "lazy" and "uneducated" but that's for another thread.
