A few years ago NARAS eliminated 30 different categories, causing most of the Urban categories that were split up by gender and subgenre to get combined (like Contemporary R&B Album, Alternative R&B Performance, etc which has killed chances for people like Janelle Monae, Azealia Banks, and Chrisette Michele, who was one of the last Alt-R&B winners. If these two categories were still there, we would have Fka Twigs, Azealia Banks, JMonae, K Michelle Lianne La Havas, etc. getting nominations for their work constantly, but instead they have to compete with more Mainstream albums that fit the R&B Album mould more.
