Random Question: I was gonna post a thread but I think I'll just ask it here, what's everyone's opinions on pop girls and producing their own tracks? Do you think we should expect more from our faves? A lot of pop girls have dabbled in production for the odd album track here and there but the vast majority of their music is written/co-written by them and produced by other(s). Would you like to see your fave be more involved in the entire process of their songs/albums?

I guess it depends on whether they can do it well? Grimes got a lot of acclaim since she basically did everything herself because so much of her craft and self esteem is based on the fact that she did it and had control over her work. At the same time, I don't expect someone like say, Katy Perry, to write, produce, engineer and mix and entire album on her own just for her to be acclaimed or her music to be "cool" or whatever.
It's nice for my faves to be involved with their work, but I don't mind either way if not. If a song is good, a song is good, regardless if it took 1 or 14 people to write.

If after years in the industry you don't know how to be more involved in your music...then that's sad imo. Whilst I enjoy Whitney and Aaliyah - it was always a shame to me that they just went into the studio and recorded. I LOVE Janet and Mariah because they're very heavily involved with their music (especially Mariah). I love Bey for that reason too - because whether she writes the song or not, you know she's meticulously involved with the vocal production etc.

The Grimes album was one of my reasons for asking this question, actually. That's obviously an extreme, and I wouldn't expect that of any pop girl, but I think it would be nice if they tried to get more involved. Gaga is a good example because since The Fame Monster she's co-produced the majority/all of her work, although I know she sites Venus as her first/only song as the "main" producer.

Sleep (Interlude)
Sleep (Interlude)
This right here is the moment that I dread
The moment that I hate
When the night is so dead
My thoughts overtake
Spiral deeper into bed
As I speculate and exaggerate
Life and it's events
Or lack of.
Mo' money mo' problems
It's a fad.
No money more problems
It's sad.
Lack of.
Lack of love
Lack of money
Lack of sleep.
I need to sleep
A deep sleep
That sleeping beauty type of sleep
That Snow White poison apple type of sleep
A sleep so deep that's it's hard for the thoughts to creep
The deepest sleep that wouldn't make me leap
The moment my Charming comes and kisses me on the cheek.
These thoughts just won't go away
Why do they stay?
Fuck off, if you may?
Wide awake, here I lay
Tossing
Turning
The bed squeaks as I sway
It's ridiculous
Frustrating
Infuriating
I feel the tears falling down my ears
And I think back over the years…
…Oh shit, not this again
Running around in circles
The clock tick tocks
Fuck.
I'm sick of this shit.
Just close your eyes.
Don't think.
Just be.
Fall asleep.
Bitter Pill
Bitter Pill
Verse:
Glory days have come and gone
Like the rising sun at dawn
The seasons of my life have spun
As I wonder, what have I done?
Pre-chorus:
I guess I should swallow this bitter pill
Instead of pretending this isn’t real
Chorus:
Oh how I wish I, how I wish I
Could give life another try
Wouldn’t stop for anyone
Won’t pick up no passers-by
I wouldn’t let anyone influence my mind
Oh how I wish I, how I wish I
Could give life another try
Verse:
As the colours change naturally
I’m overcome with jealousy
So I look over my shoulder
Hoping time turns to nostalgia
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Bridge:
Who told me life would be this way?
The hurt, the lies, regrets, and pain
Maybe I should take the blame
I keep on searching through the rain
For a chance to do this all again
Chorus
Unorthodox Jukebox
Unorthodox Jukebox
Verse 1:
It’s Friday night, I just clocked off my 9 to 5.
Dancin’ rowdy all night, gonna party, get high
Everybody move your thighs, to the left to the right
It’s time to jook ‘n’ jive, shimmy, shimmy, shake ‘n’ slide.
Hook:
I can’t stop. I’m on top.
Won’t stop moving even when the beat drops
I’m getting down, hip-hop
Everybody come on over let’s bop
Verse 2:
I just want a funky beat to get me up off my feet
MJ Thriller in the street, look at me I’m on heat
Everybody, let’s compete, even if you’re offbeat
When the music is complete I’mma just press repeat
Hook:
I can’t stop. I’m on top.
Won’t stop moving even when the beat drops
I’m getting down, hip-hop
Everybody come on over let’s bop
Chorus:
This is for the whole world
For all my boys, all my girls
No matter where you are
Get on that air guitar
Groove on top that roof top
The bedroom, that back drop.
Put a dollar in the jukebox
We’re gonna act unorthodox
Post-chorus 1:
So move it, move it, now
Move it, move it, now (x3)
So groove it, groove it, now
Groove it, groove it, now (x3)
Verse 3:
I don’t even give a damn, I just wanna act stupid
I’m gonna bam bam, gonna shoot like I’m Cupid
All these girls on the floor, I’m outta control
Janet Jack, Kendrick, I guess I’m on a roll
Hook
Verse 4:
Booty Beys, shake your knees, single ladies, look at me
How I’m rockin’ my feet, let’s get down to the funky beat
When you feel it in your bones you can’t help but dance along
I just want some rock’n’roll. Play some R&B or soul
Hook
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Post-chorus 2:
So move it, move it, now
Move it, move it, now (x3)
So shake it, shake it, now
Shake it, shake it, now (x3)
Bridge:
Let’s jam to some Armstrong
Some James Brown. Some Sly Stone.
Some Elvis.
DJ give me some Beatle.
Some “Hey Joe”. Some Purple.
Some Drizzy.
Let’s vogue to some Donna
Some Minnie. Some Tina.
Some Shuggie.
Let’s get it on to Marvin
Some Usher, some Jay-Z
Hey Stevie.
Hook
Chorus x 2
Outro:
Break it down now!
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
Strings! [scat repeated using strings]
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
Horns! [scat repeated using horns]
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
Guitar! [scat repeated using guitar]
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
Drums! [scat repeated using drums]
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
Club! [scat repeated using hip-hop beat]
Shoo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-pa-pa
Di-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi-di-pa-pa
I’m done.
How I Feel
How I Feel
Verse 1:
Trying to write a song
But I can’t find the words
To describe how I hate
The way you came into my world
Tied me in with your love
You wrapped me up in chains
You took your 30 pieces
But the shackle scars remain
Pre-chorus:
The damage is done
I’m one in a queue
I’ve got a loaded gun
And it’s aimed at you
Chorus:
I hope you fall ill to your desires
Something no pill can heal
I hope you’re engulfed in my fire
So you know how I feel
I hope you come under a bus
And I’m behind the wheel
So I can do what you did to us
So you know how I feel
Verse 2:
Trying to forget you
But I keep picturing him
When I lie in my bed
And pretend we’re limb to limb
Tell me was it worth it?
Feeding me your lies
As you won over my heart
With your quixotic disguise
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Bridge:
Maybe if you said you’re sorry?
Maybe I could make amends?
But why should I re-write the story
When you’re the one that penned “The end”
Don’t make it out like it’s my fault
Don’t say that I’m to blame
You’re the one that locked the vault
And threw the key into the flames
Chorus
Bridge 2:
I guess I’m better off alone
It’s better than being betrayed
You were my first forever more
It’s too bad it was all a charade
Chorus
Rebel Kings
Rebel Kings
Verse:
The wind has come to take our souls
And there’s no blood around our doors
We’re rebels, let’s revel.
All of the rules that we’ve ignored
Our love has been our esprit de corps
We’re rebels. Big devils
Pre-Chorus:
They’ll never beam with pride
Not with this love we hide
But what we have is bliss
I won’t let go of this
Chorus:
Let’s go down the deep ravine
Along the green boreen.
Let’s find ourselves a ghost town
A place we’ll wear the crown.
From the embers of desire
We’ll build our own empire.
We’re the kings. We wear the crowns
In our small ghost town
Verse 2:
There’s no one there, no one to fear
Our love is strong, we’ll persevere
We’re rebels, let’s revel.
No need to hide, we’re side by side.
There, our love can’t be denied
We’re rebels. Big devils.
Pre-Chorus:
They’ll never beam with pride
Not with this love we hide
But what we have is bliss
I won’t let go of this
Chorus:
Let’s go down the deep ravine
Along the green boreen.
Let’s find ourselves a ghost town
A place we’ll wear the crown.
From the embers of desire
We’ll build our own empire.
We’re the kings. We wear the crowns
In our small ghost town
Bridge:
Let’s build a fort around us
Enchant some spells to keep them out
No one will come between us
The bricks and ghouls will drown them out
Let’s form ourselves an army
Convert our sins to angels’ rings
They’ll beg and say they’re sorry
They’ll bow and worship us as kings
Chorus:
Let’s go down the deep ravine
Along the green boreen.
Let’s find ourselves a ghost town
A place we’ll wear the crown.
From the embers of desire
We’ll build our own empire.
We’re the kings. We wear the crowns
In our small ghost town
Change
Change
Intro Hook:
Everybody’s guilty
Everyone’s to blame
Quick to criticize but
No one wants to change
Verse 1:
The rich stay rich. For the poor life’s a bitch
Surprised they haven’t taxed the seats on which we sit
Work 9 to 9 but we’re still out of pocket
Cause the rulers of the world change laws in the closet
Word it in a way so the rules are esoteric
Raise our taxes whilst their funds are in Zürich
Reduce our minds to think we’re powerless to stop it
But change never comes if we all choose to quit
Feigning innocence when they’re just hypocrites
Feeding us lies when their truths counterfeit
Brainwash our minds with fear so we’d commit
To spread hate between Talmud and Mahomet
The sole main cause why life’s in the shit
The propaganda that we see on our tv screens
Moulding ideologies with the false doctrines
Hook x 2
Everybody’s guilty
Everyone’s to blame
Quick to criticize but
No one wants to change
We’re heard it all before
Make love not war
Unity, unity
We need so much more
Verse 2:
How, how, how did the world turn so cold?
Ignorance and fear got the man feeling bold
Taking over land in guise of a war
While innocent kids lay slain on the floor
Who knows what happens in room number four?
Why do we look, turn and continue to ignore?
Until refugees come knocking at our doors?
Then we realise we could have done so much more.
How in the world did we let it come to this?
And permit them bombing innocent kids
Iraq, Palestine and other conflicts
Should have listened when we said “Fuck this”
“No more war, stop the injustice.
Focus on home, we don’t want this”
And now the consequence is that we have ISIS
How many times do we have to create terrorists?
How many of our own do we have to lose to this
Before we realise that we need to change the way we think?
Hook x 2
Everybody’s guilty
Everyone’s to blame
Quick to criticize but
No one wants to change
We’re heard it all before
Make love not war
Unity, unity
We need so much more
Verse 3:
We all want the fallacy to avoid our realities
Materialism has got us hooked like a disease
Maybe that's why we're escaping life's actualities
Because everything is better in our fantasies
But avoiding the situation leads to more aggravation
All it really takes is a little conversation
Respect each other, we're the same creation
Let's come together like the rhythm nation
Mutate hate to love through evolution
What's going on, Marvin or Lauryn
We might lose some but let's win this one
We might lose some but let's win this one
We might lose some but we'll win this one
Hook x 2
Everybody’s guilty
Everyone’s to blame
Quick to criticize but
No one wants to change
We’re heard it all before
Make love not war
Unity, unity
We need so much more
Out of Reach
Out of Reach
Verse 1:
Surely there's something I can write
Words never before typed.
Inspiration has left my side
The canvas has been wiped.
Pre-chorus:
I lose my muse each time I'm stricken
By insipid waves intermittently.
Sand dunes filled with words unwritten
Flooding the blank shore beside me.
Chorus:
Out of reach, swept away
I am drifting through the haze.
Out of reach, everyday
Reaching out to end this phase.
Out of reach, I can't see
The words etched deep in me.
Out of reach, out at sea
Drowning in my vacancy.
Verse 2:
A picture paints a thousand words
But I can't think of one.
I've wracked my brain, edging forwards
But I'm nowhere near done.
Pre-chorus:
I lose my muse each time I'm stricken
By insipid waves intermittently.
Sand dunes filled with words unwritten
Flooding the blank shore beside me.
Chorus:
Out of reach, swept away
I am drifting through the haze.
Out of reach, everyday
Reaching out to end this phase.
Out of reach, I can't see
The words etched deep in me.
Out of reach, out at sea
Drowning in my vacancy.
Bridge x2:
No one else will do this for me.
No one else will make me win.
Only I can reach out and swim
And raise the anchors to my hymn.
Chorus x2
Out of reach, swept away
I am drifting through the haze.
Out of reach, everyday
Reaching out to end this phase.
Out of reach, I can't see
The words etched deep in me.
Out of reach, out at sea
Drowning in my vacancy.

Matutinal
my palm volunteers to deny your love
leaves a space to which you never belonged
your ice clings to me as a parting gift
a blue morning for a lover’s swan song
my eyes glisten; my heart begins to blush
and i smile, knowing my love is enough
i will never compromise
i will never come undone
my heart is rooted firm
i am an army of one
blue streams that flow along my wrist
mountains that line my vertebrae
my own beauty is so foreign
a discipline that i could not obey
my throat opens, my heart begins to sing
and i cry, feeling my love within
i will never compromise
i will never come undone
my heart is rooted firm
i am an army of one
explore with my family of fingers
the morning dew that hides between my knees
this self love, a matutinal ritual
i’ve come to enjoy this natural release
my lips quiver, my heart beats quicker
and i sigh, hoping this love will linger
i will never compromise
i will never come undone
my heart is rooted firm
i am an army of one
my shadow will grow as i stand on my own
but i’ll keep this love, a love to keep alone

Right? I mean, who cares for its music video nomination but it is not worthy of pop duo. That's an actual embarrassment in her career. At least Im confident it won't win

Kelly's noms BAFFLE me. Pop Vocal Album was a slight shock, but Heartbeat Song I just One of the worst songs of her career
I was kii-ing at monsters praying she would get the TIHTY nom, but I didn't know there was a media songwriting award
And yes, Carly and Hozier deserved noms as well, especially the former

have yet to see anyone say it deserves a win.
I'd gladly have given its spot to Four Five Seconds tbh
It doesn't matter, though. Uptown Funk was always going to win that category regardless of who else was nominated.
