A musical legacy knows no geographical bounds. Sure, it may not be actively recognized everywhere, but that doesn't mean the legacy doesn't exist. She may not be immediately culturally relevant in Italy or the Netherlands, and her albums' chart peaks may less than stellar in France or the UK, but her legacy stands everywhere. To deny this is like saying Meryl Streep hasn't really won 3 Oscars because she didn't win them in Macau.

EDIT: TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, relevancy depends on the place, legacy is inarguable.

In Drama my teacher was talking about the Jackson 5 and how talented Michael is and she was going on about the "it factor" and all. She said that he had more talent than the other Jacksons combined but then she was like "well, the boys anyway, Janet's just... something else"

I had my doubts about her but idk that one comment kind of affirmed this thread lmao

And you hit on something with the Beatles & Madonna comment. With true legends they are seen as such outside of their own fanbase or genre. They're that famous & respected. Or even notorious. This is where Janet doesnt make the cut.

When I think of a legend, I sadly don't think of Janet as one. To a lot of people, she is just Michael's sister who also sings. And when you think of other legends like Michael, Whitney, Madonna, Elvis, Mariah, Celine, etc, you always associate them with a song or album that stood the test of time. Sadly, I haven't heard any Janet song on the radio or used in movies, tv shows, to make her relevant to the current generation. I don't think even the current generation is familiar with nipple gate.
