I used to think like that but it has changed a lot. If she was really like that I don't think I would still stan for her... Who knows. But after all there's tons of Katy Perry's and Taylor Swift's to come. I'm sure no one would be as versatile as Rih.  |
I mean the same thing has happened with artists of the past not just Rihanna. Mariah when she released Butterfly, Xtina with Stripped, Britney after OOPS. Hence why Taylor has maintained a lot of mainstream success. The GP like safe boring, cookie cutter, great role model type of artists.
Rihanna has had a hard time breaking out of that but I think she'll be more respected when it's all said and done. She is clearly not the same girl who released GGGB, who sang OG, WFL, and Diamonds. And I think even from Unapologetic I can feel her growth. She's on the right track

This was real Rihanna, but at that time, in 2010, just like Rated R Rihanna was the real Rihanna of that time, she had a hard time back then and recorded a dark album. People change in just one year, and a lot happened in 3 years, Anti Rih is the real Rih today, she has a different point of view and is not a little girl anymore, she's a woman. But i guess success = real artist

Idk if any of you think the same thing but every era is like a different person for me.
Her style changes, her personality, her tastes in things, the way she speaks and presents herself in interviews.

She's gotten hate at EVERY Turn of her career.
GGGB- she's ripping off Kelis and that other girl
Rated R - she wants sympathy, midtempos aren't her thing
Loud- generic, faceless, she just wants hits, no substance
TTT- rushed albums, no direction, she needs a break
Unapologetic - It took *insert years* for her to get a number one album but she's an internet thug, a hoe, and a mediocre singer.
Like I could go ON

2005-2006: Baby Rih with no knowledge of the industry.
2007-2008: Edgy Rih.
2009: Dark Rih.
2010-2012: Colourful with a mix of thug life.

I think Rihanna gets bored of the same old thing, so she switches things up. We don't know her as a person so I can't say she's changed I think she's grown more into who she is, and isn't as timid, or shy to say what she likes and doesn't like. I think she's stayed more consistent as a person and everything else has gradually changed over time.

AND when she used to release album every year she was a label slave. But when she takes a break they suddenly won't let her release it even if she owns a label.

All anyone cares about here is stats anyway. You see people saying they can't wait for the Anti HDD thread...like its so pathetic. Numbers are numbers. At the end of the day Rih has done enough that even if Anti bombs she's still gonna make music (if she wants in between modeling) and that means more for us.
