I was referring to 2005 where Rebirth underperformed and Emanicpation of mimi overperformed.
TImeline:
90-96 Mariah dominates.
Mariah and Tommy divorce
97 her butterfly era she scores 2 hits but Tommy doesn't want to promote butterfly nor her urban hip pop songs
98-99 she continues down the path of rent a rapper and remix prostitution as she doesn't have the backing of her label to secure #1 hits so she uses those tactics to keep it going.
JLO
99 rides the tatin pop wave
01 comebacks more urban while Mariah has her glitter meltdown JLO and tommy take mariah's style and beats (I'm real's original beat was secured for Glitter) and then uses her renta a rapper tactic I'm real which is what Mariah did for If we and her songs in 98
Mariah catches a fit and talespins JLO thrives
2003 then JLO becomes overexposed but still see success although underperformed
Mariah 2001-2004 finding her footing. Does the Jadakiss U make me wanna to prove to urban that she still has it.
It works
enters late 2004 when people are anticipating Mariah and over JLO they both release 1st singles
2005 they release albums one is a hit and one isn't.
Pretty much when Mariah fell it was a time where Britney and JLO were dominating and it was more about dance and catchiness than vocals but then when they hit a snag in their career
Mariah came back strong.

Okay.

I agree that Britney has nothing left to prove from a commercial standpoint. But it'd be nice for her to still be a consistently good performer and still make great music. Rihanna doesn't have much to prove commercially either. But she needs to prove that she takes her career and her talent seriously.

I understand your point but I feel as though this year she has shown that she is no longer resting on it. I think after BJ flopped her first of 8 albums and she received success for vegas she realized that she has to step it up and not rest.
I personally and going to check for album 9.
After this new found peace, happiness and life she's brought to herself this year if she doesn't bring a good album then I will agree that her best years are behind her
I feel as though she hit a snag in basicness to play it safe in 2008 then rested in 2011 with generic stuff and then flopped in 2013 was the time to say you can't rest on your past you have to step it up.
She was pressured to release pretty hurls and I think after that flopped they knew they have to bring it or else.
I hope you can wait until album 9 to either stay or jump ship but if not no biggie.
I hope this new found confidence and energy means she's excited about her new work
