It is also true that the United Kingdom acted selfish throughout the history of Europe. There is the myth of a complete innocent and wholesome UK throughout the world wars and suddenly everyone forgets that the UK has been THE superior european super-ower throughout all the wars, with the biggest political and diplomatic power.

The UK did well too. It was able to act un-selfish after WW2 in regards to Germany and was very supportive for which every German will forever be grateful.

But times have changed. The British Government should work for the closest of ties with the continental countries instead of being bystanders and Amerca's lapdog.

Europe will begin to heal when every nation accepts the others as equals. The UK is one of those countries that is furthest away from that understanding right now.

The thing is that the extreme nationalistic right movement is on the forefront and gaining in the UK, France, Holland, Denmark, Hungary, Turkey, Greece etc etc etc...while Germany for example doesn't even have an openly nationalistic party in the parliament cause only a tiny minority would ever vote for them.

if you ask me, jealousy is as predominant between european countries as it was in 1914. The only difference is that central and northern Europe tend to build a block of its own today...and it seems to be growing together, leaving the european periphery in the dust.

Still generalising, stop talking about country's as if they're people, I have no ill feelings to Merkel whatsoever, I know nothing about her. As a German your really gonna bring up history to fault an entire country? Really? Every country has its problems doesn't mean you can go around calling all British people deluded and snotty (or whatever you said) just because your country accepts more refugees, get off your pedestal

Europe is afraid to be the one that will absorb all the immigrants but she's the one (with the UN) that has created this situation in the first place.

Yes. It's a bit unfair that Europe has to take the wrap when a lot of the conflict in the Middle East is half of America's mess. I'd like to see the US take as many refugees as the EU before they call Europe xenophobic. The US can do as much damage as they want abroad but they rarely suffer the consequences.
It's a bit like when the US demand the EU impose restrictions on Russia. It's easy for the US to stop trading with Russia but it's the EU who suffer as they rely on Russia much more for trading. This refugee crisis is the same. The US could destroy and displace as many people as they like and never have to worry about refugees showing to their door while Europe will always be the first to have to help them.

Because of IS and Assad. My neighbours are from Syria. They are living in Germany for over 30 years tho. They told me that their relatives from Damascus get bombed every day. Whenever they call each other (it's not always possible) she can hear the bombs in the background through the phone. They are probably from Assad (he is also using poison gas). Other relatives are living in a different part of Syria and they left because of IS. They are beheading and shooting everyone who doesn't accept the Islamic State.

That's how most syrian cities look like. It's obvious why they want to leave.

A rather large number of these people arriving in Europe are just economic immigrants, so 'refugees' wouldn't be really appropriate.

Unfortunately it''s not that easy. The syrian government (Assad) is killing it's own people. He won't do anything against IS. Free Syrian Army and Kurdish Fighters are trying to fight against both but they won't make it without support by other countries. You can see how the country is divided.

I don't get your point Most of the countries in the ME want to destroy the US as well. We don't need to pay attention to fanatics.

Meanwhile, Israel was the one that helped the syrians wounded in the civil war.

These people are NOT refugees. Refugees are people who get to a safe country and ASK for help; which the country then either supplies if it can, or ASKS other countries to supply if it cannot (which is where we come in).

People who arrive in a safe country and decide its not quite what they are after, and so march through safe countries to find one they do want, are NOT refugees. They are economic migrants.
